IT’S GREAT TO BE BACK! EUSHOPIA, THE BLOG AND HELPING A GOOD CAUSE

Eushopia.ae

Hi dears,

No, I haven’t been away, although many of you might have had that impression during the last few months. I didnt move from Dubai, I didnt go out that much, I didnt started in a gym or in a religious sect… None of that. I have been quiet in my blogging, in my life and in my social media, just because I decided to start again a project that has been itching me for so long that I really needed to scratch it. From 2013 I have the itch, imagine!

And now, I am not alone.. I have two amazing partners that I love working with and are enthusiast and brave and fun!. Life couldnt be better and surrounding myself with positive people, just makes things great!

So let me tell you also what is the project about and how is it going to change what I do here, in the blog.

Eushopia

The project is called Eushopia and you are very invited to visit our landing page in this link that is now up and running. From my first Fashion Forward in Dubai I fell in love with the talks and in one of them, designers complained about the little support they were receiving from shops, as shops prefer to have more recognized brands- specially in our GCC market that is very status driven.

Also consigment is common in the region and that means the budding designers need to produce items for the different shops before knowing if it would sell. Production costs are high when you are producing some units only and if you are starting money is not overflowing. Shops defended themselves saying that designers are not easy either, they don’t behave in a professional way, they don’t respond to emails, return calls, they do one prototype and pretend to start selling without not much else (branding, proper communication, etc). Shops also have high costs and they take a high risk.

Designers might end up taking other jobs where they can not explore anymore their talent and creativity in the same way and that honestly made me sad.

Wow! I didnt know this was such a problem and I listened to all the comments from both sides. So I started to think of ways to help the situation. Eushopia was conceived with the designers in mind.. to prepare them, to help them grow and get their brands and work out there, to represent them with shops, organise events or whatever neccessary. Initially it was not that clear.. only after more discussions and comments from here and there, it got that shape.

Eushopia’s name was not there either, it took good two- three months to choose it and it also passed a second review when the new partners joined. Another day I tell you what the inspiration was for the name.

Today we have defined the Business Plan, the mission, the vision, the objectives, the market and how to approach it and even the finantials. And although I know that we have a long road ahead, I am happy to start this walk and see how it goes. For me, it is something I am longing to do, it mixes a pair of things or three I love.. writing, helping and fashion. And that is what life is all about.. enjoying what you do and feel that you are in the flow.

and The Blog?

So the blog is going to change a bit, I have so many interests already but I want to focus a bit on this new journey that is entrepreneurship, fashion and all things digital (another passion of mine). There is a new whole world out there for me to discover and I would love to keep on sharing it with you. I hope you want to join me through this change, that I am confident it is going to be better, more exciting and very interesting.

I want to focus for this new journey on entrepreneurship, fashion and all things digital

Eushopia will have its online magazine, so a lot more of writing will be taking place. And press releases and business reports and magazine contributions .. I am happy with that! I just like it and now that I am not alone. It is so much better! If one day I am tired from work, or the muses decide to avoid me or even if you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.. it is fine. We are a team and we push together in the same direction.

Helping

Eushopia has behind a wish to help and all designers are free to contact us and we can talk and find the best ways to help them. But there is a little bit more, we also want to help causes that are close to our hearts.

The platform is in process and the Causes section is not yet ready but we want to share with you something our friend Leila is putting together now with the Red Crescent and invite you to participate. This cause can not wait until we are ready, but it is very important, so I wanted to mentioned it here- and in all my social media. She is organizing to collect clothes, medicines, toys, towels, blankets, foods (non perishable).. to send it to Syria where so much help is needed. The items will need to be collected before the end of May, the container needs to leave Dubai before Ramadan. You can get in touch with me if you want to collaborate (call me or wassup me +971 555752608). My company is helping, my neighbors, my friends.. It is so moving to see so many people mobilised to help. I am blessed with so many good people around, I can only thank the Universe.

Ups! The post ended a bit longer than what I expected but I really dont want to cut any of it.

I send you all a big hug, please visit and share Eushopia’s page and also see if you want to do the spring cleaning of your closets and help Syria. The moment is now. 🙂

XOXO

Hidaya International Fashion Show in Dubai

Hi dears,

The lovely Shereen Dury, from Coral Coast PR, was the organiser of an event showcasing the new Fall/Winter collection 2015 of Hidaya International. In case you didn´t know about this brand, let me brief you a bit.

About the brand: Hidaya International and the collection

Hidayah Wan Ismail is the woman behind this brand. She was born and raised in Malaysia. She is a lawyer by profession and a fashion designer by vocation. She lives in Abu Dhabi now and from there is from where she started to design and from where she launched her eponymous brand. Now Hidaya already has a flagship store in Kuala Lumpur.  Her unique style is a mix of tradition and modernism. As a Muslim woman her collection has abayas, but not the typical ones. She broke a rule or two. She adds color, shapes, textures, glitter and volume to the abayas.

This is the third collection and it is inspired in the way women used to dress in the 30´s. Those years when the big crisis and economic dificulties had an effect on fashion and frills and trims were reduced to the minimun. The frivolty and glamour of the 20´s turned into practicality. It is the time when suffragettes were fighting for the femenine vote. So many changes were happening or about to happen everywhere. The result is a collection that is really cool, with interchangeable pieces to mix and match and that you and me can wear anytime because they are so elegant.

What I like about the collection is the thought behind. La fuerza -the Strenght in Spanish-is the name she chose for the collection and each design is inspired by a strong woman. The designer asked herself questions like what kind of abaya would Eleanor Roosvelt wear? and Angelina Jolie? Jane Austen? Evita Peron? Grace of Monaco?.. each of them took over virtually the pencil and the drawing pad and are part of the collection.

My favourites..from the Abayas: the Keller and the Angie. Also I love the Hamilton cape and the Austen dress.

There are a lot of strong women and many are Muslim. I like the fact that they are also raising their voices, expressing their thoughts and how they feel about the world surrounding them. Trust me. They have a lot to say. I find them wise, calm, driven and determined. I dare you not to judge the woman in the abaya no matter if you are in Europe, US or Asia. It will be her choice in most of the cases. I have been here 4 years already and the elegance of the abayas is not to be missed. They are flattering, elegant and you feel like a princess. So, if you dont own one yet, try at least one in the shop.. Remove all the prejudices. It is a piece of cloth at the end of the day.

Hidaya herself is a good example of how the Muslim women are today. A lawyer, yes.. a very convenient career and still she decided to pursue her passion. Brave woman indeed. I have not being this brave as yet.

These days we see in the news so much confussion about Islam and terrorism. Let me tell you they are totally diferent. Islam is a religion, it is not politics, it is not militia. Islam is about peace, love and respect. I have many Muslim friends and they are far from terrorists. They are honest, humble, good hearted and respectful people. For them, these terrorists are just not Muslims at all and they dont even understand Islam.

About the event

The event took place in the Cavalli Club at the Fairmount Hotel. The hospitality there was fantastic, having smiling waiters sharing drinks and little tapas and very good music playing before the show. NIVEA DOUBLE EFFECT EYE MAKE UP REMOVER

Hi dears,

I recently received a suprise package and I wanted to thank Nivea for it. They sent me a product to review together with a lovely kohl. The product is called Nivea Double effect Eye Make Up remover. Normally for my eyes I use the Sephora make up remover or the Bioderm Solution Micellaire, but this new product of Nivea is not behind, actually I feel it is gentler with my eyelids and my lashes.

It has oil extracts and together with the watery solution removes nicely and softly the make up, the eye liner and the mascara  (even the waterproof one!). I have been testing it for a week and I already recommend it. It is important that the product is able to remove the make up in not too many strokes, you dont want to be harsh on your super sensitive eye area or have strong chemicals that might hurt your eye or your vision. This product has my blessings and I think it will do very well in this market. Arab  women put so much effort in the eyes that they will need to remove it gently.

The set came with a pendrive that Dora decided to play with- as with everything in the house lately. I guess one day it will appear again or Joy with hoover it!

I took some make up still life pics to add to the blog post, hope you like them.

BCBGMAXAZRIA

BCBGMAXAZRIA Runway launched their a/w2015 collection in a very cool event at the newly opened YNOT at the Intercontinental hotel in Dubai Marina.

About the event

Ynot received the fashionable crowd and models with the beautiful clothes of this coming collection that you can find in the store already.

The runway was quite difficult I must say and probably the models had to concentrate to walk stylishly over cylindrical logs of different heights.

THE NEW COLLECTION BCBGMAXAZRIA

For me it was a pleasure to be there, not only because it was after my return from South Africa and with all the latest news I needed to feel back to normal and get to see my fellow bloggers and peers. To this event I took my friend and photographer Ayreej. I don’t know how he manages but he always makes me laugh even if we are talking about serious topics.

We took pics, met people, chat with everyone around and dance the night away.

The PR agency of BCBG is Sticky Ginger. These girls are a powerhouse of ideas and details and the event was very well organized indeed. Before we left they gave us a goody bag and I love the little cute presents. A very delicate bangle, a Fashion Survival kit with really cool contents to save your look in any given situation and the brochures with all the looks of the collection.

About the Collection

For me BCBG means feminine silhouettes, and I always find their cuts to be very flattering especially the dresses. This collection plays with ethnic patterns, leather and fur appliques, mixed with wool, fringes, quilts and sheers. It feels cozy and chic. I like it when winter clothes are warm and you can really use them for the cold weather.

The colours range from off whites to black, with greys and browns. Dont miss the coats and jackets of this collection, they are so much fun. Same as the accessories, boots, bags and scarves. We see again boots over the knee and the heel is a mix of stiletto and wedge.

BCBG mix (1)

I was really lucky and BCBGMaxAzria lent me a dress to wear to the event. Claudia, the shop manager of the MOE branch was so helpful and fun, assisting me to choose that I really need to mention her. Sorry but accustomed to the lack of quality service in Dubai, when you meet somebody passionate about what she does and nice and sweet and easy going and attentive to details, they deserve to be praised. At the end, I picked a black lace dress that looked great on me so don’t miss the photoshoot that Ayreej did.

About the brand

BCBGMAXAZRIA was founded in 1989 by Max Azria. You might wonder where from is the BCBG part or what does it mean. I did, so I researched and BCBG means in french ¨Bon Chic, Bon Genre¨, which means ´Good Style, Good attitude´ and it is the motto of the brand.

The woman inspiration behind the BCBGMAXAZRIA is sophisticated, feminine and  independent.

Even though he, Max Azria, is French /Tunisian, the brand is American -from 1998 Max Azria is part of the CFDA- and is expanding very fast, having already plenty of stores. In Dubai we can enjoy 6 shops already.

Celebrities love the brand and we have seen Angelina Jolie, Rachel Bilson, Eva Mendes, Sharon Stone, Halle Berry, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Lucy Liu, Fergie wearing them.

BCBGMAXAZRIA is not only a brand, actually is a group of companies, all fashion related. This is the timelime of how the lives of Max Azria and Lubov Azria -the brand is a husband and wife team- developed while creating this fashion emporio.

1981 Max Azria moves to USA and launches Jess offering French fashion to American women.

1989 BCBGMAXAZRIA is launched.

1991 Lubov joined the company as a designer.

1996 First Runway in New York. Lubov named Creative Director.

1998 The brand buys Herve Leger and Max is inducted to the CFDA.

2004 Max Azria Atelier for Hollywood clients.

2005 The group buys Alain Manoukian and Don Algodon.

2006 The group buys G+G retail -that was bankrupt and had more than 400 shops.

2006 In NYFW they performed 2 runways, one for BCBG and Max Azria.

2008 BCBG Generation and 3 Runway on NYFW with BCBG Max Azria Runway, Max Azria and Herve Leger by Max Azria.

2009 Launch a collab collection with Miley Cyrus for Wallmart.

2010 Lubov is also part of CFDA.

BCBGMaxazria

Today the group has more than 12 brands- BCBGMAXAZRIA, BCBGMAXAZRIA Runway, Max Azria Atelier, Herve Leger by Max Azria, Herve Leger Couture, BCBG Generation, Max and Cleo, Lola, Manoukian, Parallel, Dorothee bis and Dorotennis.

The group boasts more than 550 shops, with 180 BCBGMaxAzria Shops. Although the brands also are sold in plenty of specialty shops like Bloomingdales, Harvey Nichols, Bergdorf Goodman etc increasing their reach even further.

About the designers Max y Lubov

They have so many awards it would take 3-4 pages to list them all but what i love most is the fact that they are such a great team together. Max has taken the role of CEO, Chairman and Head designer.. he is the one with the business nose and the vision. Lubov is full of creativity and is very detail oriented, she is the keeper of the vision of what each of the brands symbolize and how to keep them fresh and chic. She holds the position of Chief Creative Officer.

But how did they met? A French of Tunisian origin, and an Ukranian. Well, Lubov moved to USA in 1980 and studied fashion at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. In 1991, a friend of Max referred her for a job opening with Max. Who would have told her that one year and a half later they will be madly in love tying the knot?.. Destiny.

Lubov y Maxazria

I hope you enjoyed this post, sorry if it got a little long. I also want to share with you another story, this time personal.. I used to live in Jamaica, there I worked as purchasing manager of a hotel project. From pipes and cement to furnishing and bathrobes for our future clients, all was going through my desk. The hotel chain that I worked for is Spanish, I am Spanish and as we were such a small community of Spanish people on the island we were all very close. The Ambassador was a phone call away and he always showed care for the investors and nationals. One day, I received an email.. The king of Spain was coming to Jamaica to meet us. I jumped!.. Jamaica is a paradise, but working on a construction site and living by the beach where all you need is bikinis, shorts and flip flops, all the glamourous clothes were left in Spain, back home, 9 hours away if flying direct.

Immediately I booked a ticket to Miami, went to the BCBGMaxAzria shop and bought 2 dresses and a pair of shoes. That day was a success, I looked and felt like a million dollar girl. I have some pics but I can not find them.. Too bad! Not every day,you get to meet your King.

Michael Kors

Michael Kors and Mall of the Emirates are celebrating!

Recently I went to the Michael Kors store in Mall of the Emirates for a very nice event. The Mall is on its 10 anniversary and Michael Kors did a special line of bags as a celebration.

The shop was nicely decorated exposing the special “10th Year of MOE” collection and all the rest of the standard collection. Maria Elena, my partner in crime came along also. We enjoyed the drinks and the cute canapes, and got to see some other fellow bloggers. I was coming right after work, exhausted and tired but I must say that it was worthy just to have some social life and get to see new things. Some times, when deadlines are in your neck, you get that very dangerous tunnel vision and stop going out, thinking constantly in work and office stuff.

This came as a very nice break, that made me realise that I need to stop and smell the roses, in my case,.. enjoy the amazing city I live in.

I am going to leave you with some pics of the event, but hey! I work in education, and you can not miss my notes about Michael Kors, the brand, the man and a little bit about all in between.

About Michael Kors

  • Was born Karl Anderson Jr, but later changed his name and also his surname as her mother remarried Bill Kors. From Karl Anderson Jr to Michael David Kors.
  • He is a Leo (09/08/1959)
  • Started studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology but never finished.
  • His mom was a model, there you might have some “fashionable” influence.
  • From when he was 5 he showed signs of fashion designer vocation.. He drew the wedding dress of his mom for her second wedding.
  • When a teenager, he was producing and selling his clothes from the basement of his house.
  • He started to work in a Boutique that allowed him to start selling his products, eventually Bergdorf Goodman liked his designs and got to be showcased in buyers meetings.
  • 1981 Michael Kors launched his brand for womenswear.
  • 1993 hit hard with bankruptcy. The brand stopped and recover only in 1997 creating a cheaper line.
  • 1997 Michael Kors joined Celine for women’s ready to wear.
  • 2002 The menswear line is launched.
  • 2003 Michael Kors left Celine.
  • 2011 Michael Kors married his long time partner Lance LePere.
  • Now the brand has over 350 shops around the world.
  • Kors has participated in Project Runway as judge and has been nominated many times in Times magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the World.
  • 2013 He received the Couture Council Award. he also has the Geoffrey Beene lifetime achievement award from CFDA.
  • He is a good person.. he worked for years with charities (“God’s love we deliver” to take care of feeding HIV and AIDs patients) and Cancer Research (Oliver R. Grace Award by the Cancer Research Institute).
  • Today the brand has two main lines.. the Michael Kors luxury collection and the Michael, accessible luxury collection.
  • He has a personal wealth of over a billion dollars according to Forbes.

I always find inspiring to know about the designers lives. Michael Kors is like a modern phoenix, coming back to life after bankruptcy must not be easy, but talent and perseverance made him back to the top.

CAROLINA HERRERA IN DUBAI

Hi dears,

Tia Carolina has come to Dubai!!. For real. No joke. She came with her daughter, the creative director of the fragrance section of Carolina Herrera Parfums to present Herrera Confidential at the Paris Gallery in Dubai Mall.

Of course you can imagine all the glamour the duo brought to the Fashion Catwalk on that already torrid Thursday in the middle of May.

CAROLINA HERRERA IN DUBAI

To me, she is simply Elegance (big cap on purpose). I know I am a bit classic, maybe that is why her lines go very well with me. And one thing that just amazes me is that she is 76! and she is so full of energy, so beautiful and so open and curious about the world.

A bit about her life:

  • Born in Venezuela
  • Her first couture show, when she was 13, was Balenciaga.
  • Part of the high society in New York in the 70’s.
  • Part of Studio 54’s bunch : Bianca Jagger, Andy Warhol, Diane von Furstenberg..
  • 1980, she started her company motivated by Diana Vreeland, the Vogue editor.
  • 1984, she started a fur collection.
  • 1987, she started a bridal line.
  • 2000, the flagship store opens in Madison Avenue.
  • 2002, CH Carolina Herrera is launched as a more affordable line. Now fragrances, handbags, shoes, menswear are part of the portfolio.
  • 2008 the brand opens in the Uk market.
  • Now brand is part of Puig.
  • Plenty of awards: New York’s Award to Excellence, Spain’s Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts and Gold medal by the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute.

With such an amazing life and such a successful career doing what she enjoys most, there is no wonder why she seems so happy and calm all the time. I found this short video about her and her vision, work processes and inspirations for the Spring /Summer 2015. By the way, I love this pique material on this sophisticated dresses and suits. It looks tres chic, it looks tres put together, it looks tres comfy. Muy bonito de veras!

TED BAKER PINCHED ME!

Hi dears,

Have you seen the new collection of Ted Baker? It is called “Pinch me” and they launched it recently at the Conrad Hotel. I must say the event was very well organised. Sticky Ginger- the PR agency- did a great job.

The new collection of Ted Baker is full of florals, soft pastels, and some super bold prints and it is inspired in day dreaming, fantasy and romance. All this together in the usual Ted Baker’s clean and structured cuts has as a result a very femenine, gentle and elegant collection.

I particularly love the print they did together with Portmeirion- the ceramics. Super sized roses and some random bugs are printed in clothes, shoes, bags.. everywhere and it looks beautiful. I tend not to like the big florals, as it reminds me of some distant aunty curtains but for some reason, this print-with bugs and all- I like.

TED BAKER PINCH METhe collection also has classic dresses with lace and some gorgeous bejewelled cropped tops, paired with the tutu full skirts.. very Audrey. Great for special occasions.
From the tropical prints. there is one that is on my wish list as it is bold, powerful and have some flavour to Peter Piloto. The print has a black base and has stargazers, hibiscus and angel’s trumpets all over.. the contrast of the black, the whites, the fucsias and the greens is very feminine and looks like you are in control. Check this picture.. like they say in Jamaica (land I love!..) Nuff said!

MY COOL SHAWL… ANDREA’S CREATION!!

Hi dears,

I had to show you these pics, because I am all excited with my new cool shawl. There are some good reasons why.. First of all, it is done with the crafty hands of a friend of mine and I appreciate the hand work and what is made with love and care. I have know Andrea for many years already -we are friends from my Jamaica times, you can imagine!- and she is all love and care.

Second of all, because it is totally cute, super soft and very versatile. I have used it in many occasions already and It always looks great. It is rectangular and can be used as an open poncho or as a shawl. The back has a beautiful pattern with colours. There are many colours,  this is the redish but I have another one in blue.

Andrea has always been very creative. Very soon after landing in UAE, she started with another friend her business and now she designs and stitches not only the shawls but also really cute bags and beach wear.. She does too beautiful pareos and light kaftans great for that lazy swimming pool afternoon or that “I-cant stop-it” read at the beach. I recommend you to check it not only because she is my friend, but also because her creations are worthy and you will like them.

I guess that is enough selling -lol!-, but I wouldn’t say it, if I wouldn’t like them and I love them!. Now lets go briefly through the outfit details. The black top is from Mango but I have very similar from H&M, Zara.., the long skirt is from a flea market many years ago- if I am not wrong, it was in Madrid- the bag is from Fendi, pendant from Tous, mix bangles and the super shawl from Hosaz.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHOEMART!

Hi dears,

Dubai is so full of events, some times it is hard to keep up with all that happens here. For example, Shoemart celebrated just recently its 25 years. This shoe company has been already quite a while in Dubai, right? They have shops in most of the malls I like. For this anniversary, they organised an event to show their new collection for Spring / Summer 2015 with their new face, Maya Diab. She is a Lebanese actress, singer and fashion icon.

The event had two violinists playing amazingly and the music of the Dj’s after it was not bad at all. The collection was very fresh, with very bright colors and some of the very chunky soles in white plastic that are so in vogue. They also showed ballerinas and sport shoes in futuristic silver and golden shades.

There were shoes shown for every occasion… for the office, for dinner out with your better half, to go to the beach with your gang, for your day off lazing around doing nothing.. What I like most about Shoemart is that their shoes are very affordable, so you always end up buying an extra pair even if it was not on your initial list. And even if they are cheap, they don’t look cheap, which is I think the secret to their success in sales.

Well dears, I have put together some of the best pics in the collage above to be able to show you a bit of what the night held.  I fell in love with the metallic with diamond appliques shoes of the presenter -also from Shoemart- and the black transparent sandals from Maya Diab…I would say they are part of the Fantasy collection if I would be asked. They are both gorgeous don’t you think?
