BCBGMAXAZRIA

BCBGMAXAZRIA Runway launched their a/w2015 collection in a very cool event at the newly opened YNOT at the Intercontinental hotel in Dubai Marina.

About the event

Ynot received the fashionable crowd and models with the beautiful clothes of this coming collection that you can find in the store already.

The runway was quite difficult I must say and probably the models had to concentrate to walk stylishly over cylindrical logs of different heights.

THE NEW COLLECTION BCBGMAXAZRIA

For me it was a pleasure to be there, not only because it was after my return from South Africa and with all the latest news I needed to feel back to normal and get to see my fellow bloggers and peers. To this event I took my friend and photographer Ayreej. I don’t know how he manages but he always makes me laugh even if we are talking about serious topics.

We took pics, met people, chat with everyone around and dance the night away.

The PR agency of BCBG is Sticky Ginger. These girls are a powerhouse of ideas and details and the event was very well organized indeed. Before we left they gave us a goody bag and I love the little cute presents. A very delicate bangle, a Fashion Survival kit with really cool contents to save your look in any given situation and the brochures with all the looks of the collection.

About the Collection

For me BCBG means feminine silhouettes, and I always find their cuts to be very flattering especially the dresses. This collection plays with ethnic patterns, leather and fur appliques, mixed with wool, fringes, quilts and sheers. It feels cozy and chic. I like it when winter clothes are warm and you can really use them for the cold weather.

The colours range from off whites to black, with greys and browns. Dont miss the coats and jackets of this collection, they are so much fun. Same as the accessories, boots, bags and scarves. We see again boots over the knee and the heel is a mix of stiletto and wedge.

BCBG mix (1)

I was really lucky and BCBGMaxAzria lent me a dress to wear to the event. Claudia, the shop manager of the MOE branch was so helpful and fun, assisting me to choose that I really need to mention her. Sorry but accustomed to the lack of quality service in Dubai, when you meet somebody passionate about what she does and nice and sweet and easy going and attentive to details, they deserve to be praised. At the end, I picked a black lace dress that looked great on me so don’t miss the photoshoot that Ayreej did.

About the brand

BCBGMAXAZRIA was founded in 1989 by Max Azria. You might wonder where from is the BCBG part or what does it mean. I did, so I researched and BCBG means in french ¨Bon Chic, Bon Genre¨, which means ´Good Style, Good attitude´ and it is the motto of the brand.

The woman inspiration behind the BCBGMAXAZRIA is sophisticated, feminine and  independent.

Even though he, Max Azria, is French /Tunisian, the brand is American -from 1998 Max Azria is part of the CFDA- and is expanding very fast, having already plenty of stores. In Dubai we can enjoy 6 shops already.

Celebrities love the brand and we have seen Angelina Jolie, Rachel Bilson, Eva Mendes, Sharon Stone, Halle Berry, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Lucy Liu, Fergie wearing them.

BCBGMAXAZRIA is not only a brand, actually is a group of companies, all fashion related. This is the timelime of how the lives of Max Azria and Lubov Azria -the brand is a husband and wife team- developed while creating this fashion emporio.

1981 Max Azria moves to USA and launches Jess offering French fashion to American women.

1989 BCBGMAXAZRIA is launched.

1991 Lubov joined the company as a designer.

1996 First Runway in New York. Lubov named Creative Director.

1998 The brand buys Herve Leger and Max is inducted to the CFDA.

2004 Max Azria Atelier for Hollywood clients.

2005 The group buys Alain Manoukian and Don Algodon.

2006 The group buys G+G retail -that was bankrupt and had more than 400 shops.

2006 In NYFW they performed 2 runways, one for BCBG and Max Azria.

2008 BCBG Generation and 3 Runway on NYFW with BCBG Max Azria Runway, Max Azria and Herve Leger by Max Azria.

2009 Launch a collab collection with Miley Cyrus for Wallmart.

2010 Lubov is also part of CFDA.

BCBGMaxazria

Today the group has more than 12 brands- BCBGMAXAZRIA, BCBGMAXAZRIA Runway, Max Azria Atelier, Herve Leger by Max Azria, Herve Leger Couture, BCBG Generation, Max and Cleo, Lola, Manoukian, Parallel, Dorothee bis and Dorotennis.

The group boasts more than 550 shops, with 180 BCBGMaxAzria Shops. Although the brands also are sold in plenty of specialty shops like Bloomingdales, Harvey Nichols, Bergdorf Goodman etc increasing their reach even further.

About the designers Max y Lubov

They have so many awards it would take 3-4 pages to list them all but what i love most is the fact that they are such a great team together. Max has taken the role of CEO, Chairman and Head designer.. he is the one with the business nose and the vision. Lubov is full of creativity and is very detail oriented, she is the keeper of the vision of what each of the brands symbolize and how to keep them fresh and chic. She holds the position of Chief Creative Officer.

But how did they met? A French of Tunisian origin, and an Ukranian. Well, Lubov moved to USA in 1980 and studied fashion at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising. In 1991, a friend of Max referred her for a job opening with Max. Who would have told her that one year and a half later they will be madly in love tying the knot?.. Destiny.

Lubov y Maxazria

I hope you enjoyed this post, sorry if it got a little long. I also want to share with you another story, this time personal.. I used to live in Jamaica, there I worked as purchasing manager of a hotel project. From pipes and cement to furnishing and bathrobes for our future clients, all was going through my desk. The hotel chain that I worked for is Spanish, I am Spanish and as we were such a small community of Spanish people on the island we were all very close. The Ambassador was a phone call away and he always showed care for the investors and nationals. One day, I received an email.. The king of Spain was coming to Jamaica to meet us. I jumped!.. Jamaica is a paradise, but working on a construction site and living by the beach where all you need is bikinis, shorts and flip flops, all the glamourous clothes were left in Spain, back home, 9 hours away if flying direct.

Immediately I booked a ticket to Miami, went to the BCBGMaxAzria shop and bought 2 dresses and a pair of shoes. That day was a success, I looked and felt like a million dollar girl. I have some pics but I can not find them.. Too bad! Not every day,you get to meet your King.

One Love,

MY COOL SHAWL… ANDREA’S CREATION!!

Hi dears,

I had to show you these pics, because I am all excited with my new cool shawl. There are some good reasons why.. First of all, it is done with the crafty hands of a friend of mine and I appreciate the hand work and what is made with love and care. I have know Andrea for many years already -we are friends from my Jamaica times, you can imagine!- and she is all love and care.

Second of all, because it is totally cute, super soft and very versatile. I have used it in many occasions already and It always looks great. It is rectangular and can be used as an open poncho or as a shawl. The back has a beautiful pattern with colours. There are many colours,  this is the redish but I have another one in blue.

Andrea has always been very creative. Very soon after landing in UAE, she started with another friend her business and now she designs and stitches not only the shawls but also really cute bags and beach wear.. She does too beautiful pareos and light kaftans great for that lazy swimming pool afternoon or that “I-cant stop-it” read at the beach. I recommend you to check it not only because she is my friend, but also because her creations are worthy and you will like them.

I guess that is enough selling -lol!-, but I wouldn’t say it, if I wouldn’t like them and I love them!. Now lets go briefly through the outfit details. The black top is from Mango but I have very similar from H&M, Zara.., the long skirt is from a flea market many years ago- if I am not wrong, it was in Madrid- the bag is from Fendi, pendant from Tous, mix bangles and the super shawl from Hosaz.

LOOKBOOK : GREEN MICHAEL KORS DRESS TWO WAYS

LOOKBOOKHi dears,

It has been a while since last time I posted a look for the lookbook files ( aka #OOTD, Outfit of the day). Reason?… Well, the pics were very well kept in my husband’s iphone and he kept on forgetting to send them to me. Lol!

Anyways, here they are finally!. Let me tell you a bit about them. There is always a history behind everything at the end of the day.

Not too long ago I went to the Dubai Outlet Mall with my girlfriends Maria Elena, Daniela and Ines. The girls who shop together stick together! or at least have great fun together, eating cake, getting lost in the Mall and helping each other to find THE piece. They literally kicked us out of the Mall and I reached home after midnight. We, women are very collaborative when shopping and we might divide in groups and coordinate the different tasks or divide the areas of the shop. Specially when you have nothing in particular in your radar and another friend does. It is normally not planned, It is just our Shopping Project Management Skills ingraned I guess. So while one is doing the queue to the changing room, the other will check for more stuff or a particular size and if happens to find something that another girlsfriend might like, will take it to her. If one of us is already inside the changing room and is in need of another size or shoes of a certain height, Yallah! There we go. To the rescue!

WWW.WHATIJUSTLOVE.COMThat day I bought this pretty dress.  It is from Michael Kors  and totally fell for its tone of intense green and the sixties cut. It has very nice metallic accents around the neck area.

The day we took the pictures for this lookbook was a very busy day indeed. You need to fully adapt all the looks depending on the situation. For the office and the dinner on that day, I paired the dress with a black shiny tuxedo type jacket that I got from TopShop  changing it later for a blue long jacket from Next for the fashion event. Believe it or not that day it was a bit chilly ( yep! in Dubai we also get some cold from time to time). The short boots are from Esprit and the bag is my cherished black croco Hermes.

With this two lookbook options I went to the office and after that to two different events. One the Spring/Summer preview of the brands under the Landmark umbrella (Reiss, Yours, New Look, Lipsy and Koton) and after that to a work related dinner at Maset Al Yakout in Wafi Mall. I just changed the jacket and the shoes and ready to go!.

I will tell you more about those two events as they deserve their own posts.

Besito for now!

My new Turkish Telkari earrings .. Thanks Elianne!

Turkish Telkari Earrings- What I just loveHi dears,

Elianne has been a contributor to my passion for earrings from around the world and she bought me these classic lovelies in her last trip to Turkey recently.

They are handcrafted in silver wire using a technique called Telkari and are sold under the brand Seyahan. You know me, the researcher ( CSI- Dubai!) … and I found some info about this very old technique.

A Bit of History

“Archaeological finds in ancient Mesopotamia indicate that filigree was incorporated into jewelry since 3,000 BC. Specific to the city of Midyat in Mardin Province in upper Mesopotamia, a form of filigree using silver and gold wires, known as “telkari”, was developed in the 15th Century. To this day, expert craftsmen in this region continue to produce fine pieces of telkari.”

Well, that’s what the Wikipedia says.. and I believe it!- For some reason, whatever Google or Wiki says stands as totally true to me.

These particular earrings are coming from that city: Mydiat, from an Syriac orthodox family workshop, and what they have been doing for generations is to weld the 925 silver wire and twist it until it looks like this delicate lacework. It amazes me the work and the tradition behind it. .. 3000 years Before Christ.. wow!

Thanks Elianne !! My earrings collection just got upgraded thanks to you and your good taste!. I love my new Turkish Telkari earrings!! Now I will feel like Helena of Troy or Nefertiti when I am wearing them.!! Lol.. So full of history! You hear!

Lots of luv,

MY LITTLE SOFIA BAG

Hi dears!

Even though I couldnt hold it when I just finished it and inmediately I posted the pic in Instagram, I want to share with you some more info of this cute little creation of mine.

The inspiration has been my very good friend Sofia Bernate. She is unique, super intelligent, an amazing woman, full of energy and love. As adventourous  and curious as me and therefore best companion of many confidences, trips, outings (also nighty ones!) and excursions while I was living in Jamaica. You didnt know? Well, I lived in Jamaica almost 6 years.. I will tell you more another day, I need more that a small mention for this blessed island in the middle of the Caribbean that I called home for so many years.

www.whatijustlove.comBack to Sofi and the bag named after her.. The idea came from a piece of fabric my friends from Regal gave me to start playing around with the sewing machine. They are really generous and where most of my designs come to be a reality. So, see the fabric.. it is red with cute black polka dots, some of them with a rim of beads in white.

www.whatijustlove.com

Having not too much of the same fabric I worked the design around – even though Sofi loves huuuge bags, the piece was not too big.  I came up with a even more passionate red piece of fabric for the linen to make even a bigger impact and avoid the polka dots of one side of being visible in the other.

I also added some interfacing to give it more structure and to protect the fabric as I think it might have been part of a sari or something delicate, specially the exterior fabric. You see there is a fold in the front? This allows for more interior space, gives more volume and breaks a bit the total symmetry of the polka dots. I love symmetry but in this case, I needed to break it and play with it.

www.whatijustlove.com

To close the bag, I found a vintage metal frame with ball clasps and a cute Oh-so-Mrs-Daisy handle. This part was the trickiest to sew as it has to be done by hand and making sure the fabric and the linen (and the interfacing) would not move from the “assigned” hole and sticht to the frame.

I loved it and I will be doing more of this type some time soon.

www.whatijustlove.com

On the meantime,  I stay tuned as I am really doing quite a lot of crafts now. (yuhuuu!).

Lots of luv,

Leli

COLLABORATION WITH WOLFORD

Hi dears,

I am very excited to show you some of the pics of the collaboration with Wolford. It is funny, but since we initiated the conversation, wherever I was going I was just finding Wolford shops (in every cute corner in Paris, Madrid and here in Dubai Mall).

I always loved stockings and here I am using them for the office specially. Lets face it, Dubai is right now hot and humid, so stockings might not seem the perfect match, but in my office – where I spend soooo many hours of my day- it is freezing cold.. no matter if it is summer or winter. Lets just say we -females and males- have a fight over the A/C control and they always win. The tights are great and solve my problem and if you, like me, like them thin, then you can use them everywhere indoor and outdoors.

The selected tights were black with  10 den and back seam .. the devil is in the details, and this one model is just sexy and at the same time is a total classic. They are super soft and very resilient.  I styled it in two ways.. one in a naughty way with my hubby’s shirt, a mini skirt and the other with a LBD from New Look that I like a lot and I constantly mix with jackets in white or black. The shoes are from Pierre Cardin and are the typical lady Oxford shoes with pretty black and caviar bead accents. I could have also used heels but I found this look easier and so comfy I could run a marathon with.

Wolford has more than just tights. If you check on its website or visit one of its shops, you will find it has also swimsuits, bodies and pretty lingerie. They also have a ready to wear section with nice dresses, skirts and tops and another section called “Shape and Support” ( to keep things in place!). I also discovered that they also have an accessories line with belts, scarves and some stockings gloves that look amazing.

Ok, lets go for the pics.

I hope you like them!

AT FASHION FORWARD TALKS… THE SHOE BUSINESS

I always enjoy the talks at Fashion Forward as much as the runways. There are so many insights, wisdom, advise, .. and all of it, it is there if you are opened to it. Now that is about to be another edition I was just remembering about this amazing talk I enjoyed so much of the last edition.

I honestly wanted to attend this talk because I saw a spanish name on the panel and I like to support my nationals, even if it is just as listener. I love shoes, but I am not really in the shoe business. Then I realise that the panel was amazing with Aennis, Shamsi and Amanda Navai as shoe designers.

www.whatijustlove.com

Let me briefly introduce you to them.. Aennis is a Jordanian with an amazing sense of aesthetics. He is an architect and is obsessed with geometry and calligraphy. His unique shoes reflect both: the architecture and the beautiful arabic calligraphy. I discovered him through Instagram. His feed made me dream…I was seeing my little ravioli feet with beautiful words around. I still can not read arabic -left alone the calligraphy- I just trust that they dont say “stinky feet” or “I need a pedicure” kind of message ( Aennis I hope I am not giving you ideas! Lol).

www.whatijustlove.com

Aennis was for me the most authentic within the panel (sorry guys, everybody has a favourite!).

Amanda shoes are very nice too. Her UPS is that they are made out of pythom and she spoke about how she started the shoes out of the leather scraps from the bags. Pythom is expensive material to use and if you can maximise the leather piece, then you should. She mentioned a lot the need to be on top of your business ( so true, creative souls of the world listen attentively..). She moved to Lebanon because of that.. same as Aennis lives in Italy. Just be where you produce and keep your eyes on the production to make sure your standards are understood and kept at all times.

Rania and Alberto were representing the Shoe Level district. For those who don’t know it is like shoe paradise, all the most beautiful, unique shoes in the world live there happily ever after, being admired and purchased by savvy shoe lovers. This heaven is ruled and curated by Chalhoub group.

Shamsi is a local designer of male traditional shoes. He knows perfectly his market and what works here. Sure he wants to grow but he is seeking the best way to do it without loosing hi straditional touch. Not easy.. Local o Global..What is it Glocal in reality? Should we loose our identity to open new markets or show we just stick to what we know best, what we are comfortable with?

During the talks, we heard both answers: yes and no. So I guess we will have to find our way accordingly to our personal circumstances. These were some of the messages said during the talk…

The most important thing is passion.

Alberto

As a designer, be humble..

Listen to the retailers, listen to the customers, listen to everybody…

Rania

Start by little…

Amanda

It would be great to develop the craftmanship for footwear in the region.

Rania

Prada is not my competitor…

Shamsi

I posted all the pics of the talk on the Facebook Blog’s page, but here you have some of them. I am so lucky to have a cute pic with Aennis!..Next step is having a pic with his cute shoes!.

REEMAMI at The Cartel

Hi dears,

This Thursday was great! Yep! Normally my favorite day of the week is Friday ( I was born on a snowy Friday, which in Madrid is kind of unusual!). But this Thursday was great because I had a blast. After a very intense week of work and many sleepless nights because I miss my hubby, I gathered the energy to get to The Cartel with my friend Rizza to see the special edition of Reemami.

You might have seen already the Frida print everywhere… but in color. For The Cartel it will be in Black and White, their signature colors. The event was great, with VBP (very beautiful people) and with Reema Al Banna around for questions and pics. I like her a lot. We meet at an event when she was the face of Samsung, kind of a fashion incubator and she was the mentor.. I dream of having such a cool mentor, but I was far from ready to join the program.

Reema had a great idea and now her brand is easy to identify. The print is totally unique, coming out of children’s version of Frida’s self portraits. Unibrow is the name of the collection by the way. Frida was unique, her art, her life, her intense love and despair.. in one of my trips to Mexico I visited her house, now museum, in Coyoacan, Mexico DF. It was just one of the most enlightening experiences.. out of pain, beauty.

Natasha D’Souza, my lovely neighbor, is now part of The Cartel’s team. She is so much fun and really the event was so very well organized I need to praise her and the team’s work. There were Nail art, a DJ, live painting, yummy sushi and finger food, colorful drinks, models posing around and I got to see some fellow bloggers and friends. Honestly, it couldnt have been better!

The Cartel’s pieces are out of the ordinary and every time I visit them they have new cool stuff. I recommend you to visit them. Although is off the beaten path in Al Quoz is not difficult to find and it is absolutely worthy.

Here you have some pics!

Besito,

The VMAS.. my sincere opinion.

Oye eso!

Everybody is talking and tweeting and instagraming about the VMAs. Who wore what, What wore who and Who is who anyways. I am a bit lost within this celebrity sphere, specially now with so many teen series that bore me to death and for some reason, they looked the same to me (vampires and girls killing and bitching).

Lets review, as I am not too impressed at all with the looks of this year….

As usual Queen B was awesome. She looked perfect and she performed perfect. Boy! she is amazing and look like things in the house are getting better as Jay Z and the baby Blue Ivy ( is that a real name?) were there. Solange also went, she wore a H&M suit, but I kind of feel she forgot the Tshirt or something.. better do a check list for next time, dear.

Solange Knowles

Iggy Azalea was wearing a silver Atelier Versace dress.. Very pretty in the front, but made her rear a bit too much. The dress is great, she has a beautiful silhouette but.. mmm.. no. Not sure, too stiff, not comfy or something.. she doesn’t feel like enjoying it.

www.whatijustlove.com

Nicki Minaj came with a re short snake dress.. very much Nicki. In this VMAs there was a lot of animal print in the looks.. check Charli XCX as a tigress (terribleee!), Michelle Williams  with Giraffe print or Cynthia Watros with the zebra dress. I guess over there is a bit like the jungle and it shows somehow.

www.whatijustlove.com

Also there was a lot of leather.. not only Miley Cyrus with her very futuristic and comfy ‘all is leather, baby’ look, Ariana Grande (Confusing look, confusing age, please don’t be Britney!) and many others choose leather as statement. I like leather, it is luxurious, soft and primitive at the same time. It is for me the material of choice. By the way, Myley says now she is retired from twerking.. No more comments.

www.whatijustlove.com Miley Cyrus

Katy Perry came with Riff Raff in all denim matching suits from Versace. Well, it is not my taste but it is very much hers.. always playing and breaking rules and being totally random. She is like this and I love her freedom. Besides, she looks like this Marvel Super hero. Go girl go!

I have a very similar outfit to Rita Ora’s.. red, sexy, showing skin, lots of it …mine is not a dress but a silky pj’s. Not sure my mom would let me got to the VMAs with it ..lol.

www.whatijustlove.com

Taylor Swift came with a fun bodysuit, in a cute blue color and full of letters stamped all over. It is a Mary Katrantzou piece and it is not easy to rock but Taylor with thoooooose legs of half a kilometer makes it look great. I wouldn’t dare to be honest!

www.whatijustlove.com

Charbel Zoe was the one dressing J.Lo and she looked amazing. It is the kind of dresses she likes and she looks so good in .. sexy, sensual and glittery ..very J.lo. When I went to his runway show, I was just picturing every dress for her. This is your designer my dear.

www.whatijustlove.com

I saw some lace.. most of it white, in dresses the colors red and silver metallics were all over but I think the king was black. Like Queen B, Miley, Jenner or Chanel Iman ( amazing in that Balmain dress). Talking about Balmain.. Kim, please.. cover yourself.. In general, there was a generous display of breasts (Kim, Demi Lovato, Rita…) and skin (you saw Amber Rose’s look?.. chains and knickers.. Yallah!I am ready for the VMAs!).

www.whatijustlove.com

Checking the guys outfits, it is all soooo different. Why we women need to show to sell, specially in this music business..? Boy! We need more Adeles in the World. Instead of the Music awards looks like a Cattle fair..

Anyways, there were outfits that I like, not because I would wear them but because they reflect the personality of the wearer.. like the one of Gwen Stefani.. totally her!. Or just because it was fun, like the one from Victoria Justice ( I don’t know who she is but I like the skirt and the #hastag bag and the fun around it!).

You want to check all these dresses and share your thoughts?… I checked them in this link from VMAs directly. The videos are there too. At the end of the day, it is about the music of these amazing performers.

Lots of luv,

Leli – www.whatijustlove.com

FIT AND FLARE- A NEW ENTRY TO THE FASHIONESE DICTIONARY

This is the word I have picked for today’s post. Being Spanish and having lived so many years overseas I end up having a “Spanglish” as mother tongue and a lack of the appropiate word sometime.. what I studied  has nothing to do with fashion and so this is a great way to learn and share, in case you are in the same situation as me.

Ok, back our our fashionese Dictionary. “Fit and Flare” is an adjective used to describe garments that are close fitting at the top and flare out towards the hem. Examples include the “fit and flare skirt” or the “fit and flare dress”.

I have a skirt I absolutely adore that is of this kind. This skirt has been part of my staples since my Jamaican times because it is super comfy, covers your legs and in my case, I have the feeling it would protect me from the mosquito bites without being thick trousers. On top of all this, they look great as this siluette is very feminine.  They come back in fashion from time to time and I always buy 1 or 2..

Do you have some fit and flare garment that you love and would want to share? We will add it to the visual Fashionese Dictionary on the Facebook Fan page of the blog!!. Please send your look to whatijustlove@gmail.com or to the blog’s facebook page, the twitter or the instagram.

I leave you with the pics of a look I put together with my black fit and flare skirt. These pics we took after a lunch with some friends at Little Bangkok, a cute nice thai restaurant in JLT. Disregard the belly, the food was too good not to eat it all! Lol.
