And I recommend it a lot!. Scarlett is just such an impressive actress. She and Morgan Freeman just nailed it. The movie is goes pretty fast and there is action, a bit of philosophy and to me.. a lot of after thinking. If you have the chance, go watch it.. it is worthy.

Little advice

Avoid to come to the cinemas in the JBR- Marina area. As much as I love it here, the traffic jams right now are just too much as they are closing lanes due to the tram construction. If still you want to come to the cinemas at The Beach make sure you have patience and time to be 45 minutes to 1 hour in traffic so that you dont miss the movie. 😉

Little anecdote

Please note that it is PG 15, ok?… For some reason they asked me at the cinema a zillion times if I was actually over 15.. I thought I was not understanding properly and “my logical brain” translated it as “50” ( hellooo, long are the days that they asked me for the ID!!).. I was all upset until the lady insisted .. 1.. 5… Boy! That made me smile!

Good nite!

Hi dears,

Tomorrow we will know if the Expo 2020 will be coming to Dubai- or to Sao Paulo, or to Izmir, or to Ekaterinenburg. Can you imagine? These type of events normally change the life and landscape of a city. Dubai has changed so dramatically in the last 10 years, from rags to riches,.. Can you imagine all the changes the city will go through if we are selected? Wow! I hope they cap the rentals or else we will end up living under a bridge!!

The area that they are to use for the Expo Compound is in the Jebel Ali area and once the Expo is finished it will become a research center and a University, which I find great.. make it Public and it will be even greater! 😉

The other cities are good expo material for sure too, but I am sorry, my absolute winner is Dubai. Something I love about this place is the Can-do attitude everywhere.. You can achieve your dreams if you want to, you can transform, learn, change and become a better version of you and by doing so, improve the lives of everyone you encounter in your way. This is actually one of the principles of the proposal: Opportunity. The other two are mobility and sustainability. In this two, Dubai still has a lot to do as a city but the Expo could be a good beginning.

Well, I leave you with these inspiring videos and .. Lets get to work! ( I love that part of the video!) Because even if we dont win, we should get hands on with our Enviroment and our Development.

Luv and fingers crossed!!

PS: Rumor has it that if Dubai wins, the Sheikh will give one day extra holidays!!

Spiders, spooky masks, bats flying around and scary-faced pumpkins.. Halloween is almost here again!

It is not a particular fete that I enjoy that much as I don’t like terror stuff ( I dont enjoy horror movies, I get terrorized!), but well, once in a while, with the appropriate mood, it can be fun .. and elegant. So please don’t dress like a pumpkin!!

Morticia was very chic- Gothic (gochic!) and this year we could try to get her looks with a good dose of make up and some nice pieces.. I love this dress of Valentino although I know it is not for every pocket (not mine at least! This beauty costs almost 35.000 Dhs-around 7.000 Euros). It has black lace and leather in perfect harmony. I love the simplicity and elegance of Valentino.  In Sauce you have a Rhea Acosta black long dress that is very similar to the Valentino and costs 7.000 Dhs (not Euros!).

There are other options of black dress that are much cheaper and even though not being the same silhouette still will give the gochic effect. Like these ones from Zara. To add the spooky festive part just go to Satwa and buy some pieces of tutu fabric ( hard one) and with a belt organize yourself a pretty, full of volume and irregular layer of extra tutu skirt around your waistline and in your back.

Halloween is all about accessories. So you could pair the dress with not only the tutu belt (leave some extra long tail for cooler effect) but also you will need a pair of shoes or boots. I love boots, although Dubai weather doesn’t allow for much real use- unless you work with me and have a cryogenic lab as office. Honestly! My office is soooo cold!-. Check my picks. One is like Mary Poppins style – I love it! It is super-cali-whatevaaaaword! and the other follows the theme of elegant black lace.

There are some hand or arm candy that depending how Gothic you want to go, it could work, like this roman cuffs in leather or this more delicate lace finger-wrist piece.

The face is critical in any costume so make up is required but also if you want to keep it more simple you could use a mask. Check this one I found on the internet… very much 50 Shades of Grey Style eh!. By the way the kind of tutu fabric you can use for the layers is similar to this one or with less spacing.

I also wanted to show you another creative way of using this fabric. Koton has it on this year collection and I find it really cool – and easy to do it at home, if you don’t have a Koton store close by. Winter warm knitted hat with a  touch of glam.

www.whatijustlove.comNow we need to decide where to go to show our magnificent and gochic look. I found two parties in Dubai that look like the best of the best. One is at the Cavalli Club at the Fairmont Hotel in Sheikh Zayed. Cavalli will celebrate the Day of the Dead on the 31st of October between 21:00 and 3:00. It cost 300 Dhs but includes open bar from 21:00 to 00:00.They will have some special Halloween cocktails and shots Cavalli style! On the page where you can book they have this very spooky video that can give you one idea for make up.

The other Halloween party is in Studio F in Emirates Towers. This one is costume only and couples only ( sorry guys!). The price is 150 Dhs and it will be rocking to DJ Parham Loco and Armin Van Bango from 22.30 to 03.00.

Well, now it is all said. It is time to get ready and rock the Halloween mood.

By the way, this is a pic of a cat woman costume I wore- yes, it is me!- in one of the best Halloween parties I can remember, in my beloved Jamaica. Great times!!

Enjoy, be happy and scare your neighbors, before they scare you!

This song has come to my head like non stop from the last few days and it is because for me it is time to move.. I have been living in my cute little apartment in Marina for almost 2 years and now with all my hobbies (expensive and expansive hobbies) we need more space. Being 100% honest, I need more space. Hubby is amazing and doesn’t complain at all in the little corner.

My favorite corner in my house.

We have been looking around and my heart is divided between the Springs- cute little villas with garden (BBQs!) a very family like atmosphere, the only cons is that there is not so much interior space and you need a car to come and go- and Marina – with the views and the fact of having everything right under your feet, all the restaurants, the beach, the Marina, the shops and saloons. The apartments we have seen are spacious, but they have a little terrace meaning No BBQs 🙁 , no community feel like in villas, and traffic. Both options have swimming pool and assigned parking lot.

We have to make a decision in the next days and I am not sure what to do. Prices are kind of the same and it is more a matter of what lifestyle you want to live the next year.

I must tell you that to rent in Dubai is very stressful. There are plenty of realtors and agents but  there is such a demand- even with the super high prices- that they pretty much don’t care about anything but their commission. They will tell you things like.. you need to tell me now or else it will be gone.. and the market in here is so fast paced, it probably will. One of the apartments we saw yesterday, we liked and decided to call the agent to inform as we were coming out of it. We wanted to see if there would be room for negotiation and well, it was gone already. They started to show it just that same day. Amazing!

Also another thing that it is very Dubai is the “1 check “.. basically means that you pay in advance for the entire year..Yep! I am not kidding. I remember those sweet days on my 20’s when in London you could pay every week. That may be too much, but this is absolutely too little. All the risk to be bear solely  by the tenant.

Last year there was a big scam and many people got kick out of the rented apartments and lost their money (1 year rent @ Dubai prices..that must hurt!). So we have to be very alert and request all sort of documents to make sure the owner is the one owning the property for real and the contract is for the same property you are moving in. In case of questions, ask the RERA people. They are the ones providing certification to the agents and controlling the real state in UAE. RERA stands for Real Estate Regulatory Agency.

Well, enough said.. I will check with my pillow about what decision to make. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to comment. It might be helpful to break the deadlock!!

If you want to follow the blog through social media you are very invited and actually it will make me very happy!. These are the links.

Free Hold XOXO and lots of luv without commissions or taxes,

Yep! I just read it in Time Out…  Alicia Keys is coming to Dubai. She will be presenting her “Set the World On fire” Tour at the Dubai Amphitheater on the 15th November. The support act comes from Jason Derulo.(Day Oh! Me say Day Oh! Daylight comes and we don’t want to go home.. remember the song? It is very catchy).

This is a concert I dont wanna miss and I wont.. hehehe.. In case you want to come too this is the link to buy the tickets. They go from 295 Dhs for Regular, Front Pit for 595 Dhs, and VIP Lounge for 1,295 Dhs. It looks like within the VIP Lounge they are setting up a “Ladies Only” area. Definitely being a girl here, has some perks.

For some reason, I enjoy songs more when I know them very well, so I am the kind of freak that prepares the concerts listening to the same artist until exhaustion. For this reason I uploaded in the YouTube Chanel of the blog a playlist with the songs from her repertoire that I like most.

You can use the link to get in the mood for the concert or just to have it as background music while you study or work. She has the kind of music that doesn’t disrupt you from doing anything else.. well, maybe you end up singing the No Oneeeee or the New Yooooorkkkk  out loud, but that is Ok. At least to me. I am singing most of the day any way.

Well, my dears… Today is a very special day to me as it is my husband’s birthday and I am preparing a surprise for him. So you can imagine the conspiracy behind the scenes, as he doesn’t know his present as yet.

Need to go now to make things ready.

Just in case you are outside of this World and missed the huge media coverage that this Chanel event had during the Paris Couture Fashion Week, I have created a playlist with the ins, the outs and the abouts of the show. If you have any problem with the video embedded, just go to the What I Just Love Youtube Chanel. There you will find 3 videos, one with the show, one with interview to the attending celebs ( RiRi was there!) and another one with the backstage.

Chanel showed an amazing collection Autum/ Winter 2013-2014 in an ‘aftermath’ theater. The looks – a bit industrial, maybe not too haute couture- are amazing to me. Maybe it is not what many Chanels were expecting but creativity has its ways and same as Dior is less rock and roll now that Galliano is gone, Chanel has full right to change from time to time and give us surprises.

I like the fact that this Haute Couture is more wearable. At the end of the day, you don’t attend red carpet events everyday (not yet!) and I find it fun.. to break the rules. Maybe in coming years, we will see people in jeans and pajamas (ok we have seen already some pajama-looking gowns already) going to pick up their awards, getting married or attend dinners at the G8 Summit.

Hi there,

I saw this beauty and have to share it with you all. I am specially thinking in one of my subscribers, architect by profession and by passion.

It is not the first time that Zaha Hadid surprises us, fashionistas, with amazing designs, fluid, beautifully delicate, simple and complex at the same time. If you like her creations in architecture, you will love this shoes, because they are architectural in every way. They are totally Zaha.

They are high, not sure if I can use the term “high heeled” here because as you can see there is no heel to be seen. 6.25 inches, which equals 15.8 centimeters. Wow! That is a good lift!

When I first saw them, I was not sure about what material could that be, if they ever had the intention to make out of them comfy shoes. Probably comfort was not top of the list when doing this beauties anyways, but it looks like they are more flexible than what they look. The top is vinyl rubber coated in metallic chrome, the sole or heel (or where the heel is supposed to be) is made out of fiberglass and the interior is lined with nappa leather. So probably they are lighter and softer than what they might look.

It is an very limited edition for United Nude, only 300 pairs. 100 pairs for each of the three colours : black, rose gold and silver. They cost 2.000 USD each, but well, you are wearing a  Zaha Hadid creation! I love her work very much.

And here you have the video of the making and the walking.. Hope you enjoy it!

Hi there!

The other day I got invited to the graduation of this year’s fashion students at Esmod Dubai. I was pretty impressed with the level as they put together a proper runway in the middle of Wafi Mall to show the works of the students for 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year.

You can see the expertise and the imagination that these students develop every course. Last year students are already proper designers.. ready to go to the world and dress it in style!!

The entire Brag team was sitting just in front of me. They are the organizers of Fashion Forward Dubai. Sorry I have to mention it… I love it!! (who doesn’t?). Hopefully next year my pieces will be there.. at the shop!.

I can send you the list of the names of the graduates in case you are looking for new young talent. As much as we love brands and international designers, we must not forget our local creators. You would be surprised how many designers had to migrate to make their dream come true.. and here, in the middle of the Middle East, this fact is sadly common, even though we all know there is an amazing market to explore.

Well, I took some pics and videos. I hope you enjoy them. For this very special occasion I even opened a Youtube channel. So please follow the Youtube channel to keep yourself posted on the last Fashion news from Dubai. Here you have the link.

Luv and Fashion,

Christian LouboutinThe beginnings.. Louboutin

I came across this video (in the link above) with the origins of Christian Louboutin. I just loved it and have to share it !

I personally don’t own (as yet) any of his shoes, they are part of my wish list though!

Kudos for him, for his passion and for the beautiful results of his creativity!

If you have the chance, check his online shop and his Loubi World Madness. It is so original to see the designer with this hindu- hypnotique look. He might need to breath though as he appears with a blue face (Ganesh reminiscence but with no trunk).

Here you have the links. Be patient, it takes a bit of time to load, but it is worthy. I guess all the moving objects and images make it heavy.

Which one  is your favorite shoe of the collection?

Kudos for you too if you manage to choose only one!
