IT’S GREAT TO BE BACK! EUSHOPIA, THE BLOG AND HELPING A GOOD CAUSE

Eushopia.ae

Hi dears,

No, I haven’t been away, although many of you might have had that impression during the last few months. I didnt move from Dubai, I didnt go out that much, I didnt started in a gym or in a religious sect… None of that. I have been quiet in my blogging, in my life and in my social media, just because I decided to start again a project that has been itching me for so long that I really needed to scratch it. From 2013 I have the itch, imagine!

And now, I am not alone.. I have two amazing partners that I love working with and are enthusiast and brave and fun!. Life couldnt be better and surrounding myself with positive people, just makes things great!

So let me tell you also what is the project about and how is it going to change what I do here, in the blog.

Eushopia

The project is called Eushopia and you are very invited to visit our landing page in this link that is now up and running. From my first Fashion Forward in Dubai I fell in love with the talks and in one of them, designers complained about the little support they were receiving from shops, as shops prefer to have more recognized brands- specially in our GCC market that is very status driven.

Also consigment is common in the region and that means the budding designers need to produce items for the different shops before knowing if it would sell. Production costs are high when you are producing some units only and if you are starting money is not overflowing. Shops defended themselves saying that designers are not easy either, they don’t behave in a professional way, they don’t respond to emails, return calls, they do one prototype and pretend to start selling without not much else (branding, proper communication, etc). Shops also have high costs and they take a high risk.

Designers might end up taking other jobs where they can not explore anymore their talent and creativity in the same way and that honestly made me sad.

Wow! I didnt know this was such a problem and I listened to all the comments from both sides. So I started to think of ways to help the situation. Eushopia was conceived with the designers in mind.. to prepare them, to help them grow and get their brands and work out there, to represent them with shops, organise events or whatever neccessary. Initially it was not that clear.. only after more discussions and comments from here and there, it got that shape.

Eushopia’s name was not there either, it took good two- three months to choose it and it also passed a second review when the new partners joined. Another day I tell you what the inspiration was for the name.

Today we have defined the Business Plan, the mission, the vision, the objectives, the market and how to approach it and even the finantials. And although I know that we have a long road ahead, I am happy to start this walk and see how it goes. For me, it is something I am longing to do, it mixes a pair of things or three I love.. writing, helping and fashion. And that is what life is all about.. enjoying what you do and feel that you are in the flow.

and The Blog?

So the blog is going to change a bit, I have so many interests already but I want to focus a bit on this new journey that is entrepreneurship, fashion and all things digital (another passion of mine). There is a new whole world out there for me to discover and I would love to keep on sharing it with you. I hope you want to join me through this change, that I am confident it is going to be better, more exciting and very interesting.

I want to focus for this new journey on entrepreneurship, fashion and all things digital

Eushopia will have its online magazine, so a lot more of writing will be taking place. And press releases and business reports and magazine contributions .. I am happy with that! I just like it and now that I am not alone. It is so much better! If one day I am tired from work, or the muses decide to avoid me or even if you don’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.. it is fine. We are a team and we push together in the same direction.

Helping

Eushopia has behind a wish to help and all designers are free to contact us and we can talk and find the best ways to help them. But there is a little bit more, we also want to help causes that are close to our hearts.

The platform is in process and the Causes section is not yet ready but we want to share with you something our friend Leila is putting together now with the Red Crescent and invite you to participate. This cause can not wait until we are ready, but it is very important, so I wanted to mentioned it here- and in all my social media. She is organizing to collect clothes, medicines, toys, towels, blankets, foods (non perishable).. to send it to Syria where so much help is needed. The items will need to be collected before the end of May, the container needs to leave Dubai before Ramadan. You can get in touch with me if you want to collaborate (call me or wassup me +971 555752608). My company is helping, my neighbors, my friends.. It is so moving to see so many people mobilised to help. I am blessed with so many good people around, I can only thank the Universe.

Ups! The post ended a bit longer than what I expected but I really dont want to cut any of it.

I send you all a big hug, please visit and share Eushopia’s page and also see if you want to do the spring cleaning of your closets and help Syria. The moment is now. 🙂

XOXO

BACK IN DUBAI.. BACK TO MYSELF

hand-heart-shape-sky-facebook-cover

Hi my dears!

It has been a while since my last post.. almost a month. I am sorry.. all my efforts to try to post more regularly were just vanished, just dissapeared ..you know sometimes life throws things and situations at you that require your full attention and now, a month later I am still there.. with my mind lost somewhere between stress, sadness and limbo.

This last month, month and a half has been crazy.. I normally dont get too personal in this blog.. it is about fashion, lifestyle.. it is supposed to talk about something that doesnt hurt ( even if sometimes certain styles may hurt our eyes), it is supposed to stand by the name -what I just love- not what makes me think or what makes me sad or what makes me just want to give up.. but all those feelings are very present in my life too. I guess in todays days we all want to look picture perfect and this aint pretty.. feelings are actually quite messy.

Anyways, just bear with me while I try to get back on my feet and feel the happy vibrant me again. I miss me.. so it is my duty number one. I wanted to do so many things this September -October.. I wanted to attend and enjoy Fashion Forward, I wanted to help Maria Iqbal to prepare for it, I wanted to go to Gitex, learn a zillion things related to mobile apps and technology, I wanted to attend the Spanish Embassy for our national day, design more bags, push a new blog in spanish and keep on writing for my friends and fellows,.. one very interesting collaboration with Mona has been bugging me but I just could not write a word.. I just couldnt even call.. I felt blocked. Sorry dears.. I just realised I am so very human that it scares me.

Bit by bit, one step at a time..

Luv,

Leli

WHAT THE OKRYUGWAN!!!

Oh! Wow! We know Dubai is a melting pot with people from all walks of life, countries, cultures and languages. If you follow me on Instagram you will know too that I am a foodie and I am keen on trying any cuisine, but this one.. Boy! It was a surprise! Great Surprise for my palate!

Some months ago my husband and me decided to start looking for new places to dine. We think the Bur Dubai, Deira and Karama areas will hold great secrets and we were just driving – no GPS- until we would find something eye catching and stop to give it a try. From this experiment, some times we had not the best results, but this one time I must say, I honestly enjoyed it.

The restaurant is called Okryugwan – dont ask me what it means, not a clue-  and it is inside one hotel -Royal Ascot or something similar. I am not sure where it is, but you can check it on Time Out Dubai, because there is not that many North Korean restaurants in the world (around 12 in our planet). It looks like these restaurants are operated by the North Korean Government to acquire foreign currency and to maintain the expenses of the embassies.

IMG_6830

Honestly, we decided on it because at the entrance there was a beautifully dressed lady. Lol! This is what happens when you let us decide! She was wearing the traditional korean dress in baby blue and she was all smiles. The dress is absolutely gorgeous!

I have this fetish of buying traditional dresses and earrings in my travels (or my husbands!). I never  or very rarely wear the dresses outside home but I feel I have a piece of the country and the culture. If any one of you have the chance to get one of these korean dresses, remember me!

The place is not the shiny gold and modern luxurious decor Dubai  has us accustomed to. It is pretty basic, feels like one of those chinese old restaurants back home. The food is very nice, but be aware, when it says spicy or hot, it really is.

The one thing you can not miss is the korean barbeque. It is very traditional and very yummy. In some other Korean restaurants they give you a plate of raw meat or fish and start the bbq, the cooking is for you to do.  The bbq is right at your own table. There is like a hole and inside it is the grill. At Okryugwan they do the bbq for you, so we had our gorgeous waitress show cooking for us.

Other thing I liked a lot were the dim sums. The pastry filled with chicken were delicious. I totally recommend you to try them. The soups were very nice too.. we choose one with kimchy – not knowing what it was really, but it looked like cabbage- here is when things got too hard to swallow. The flavour was very nice but it was really hot.  Spice is cumulative so the first spoons were ok, the rest were.. too much for me. 😉 (fire extinguisher situation)

Here you have my pics. If you go, let me know your thoughts.

Lil

THE THREE WISE MEN IN MADRID

Hi dears,

I am on holidays, back home, in Spain. Madrid is absolutely gorgeous in Christmas, although this year I missed the Christmas and the New Years Eve and flew right after. Yes, good guess.. I had to work!.

www.whatijustlove.com

Now I am here and it feels like a dream as we are visiting family, friends and .. well, the new house!. It is as beautiful as I remembered it in August- when we fell in love and decided to purchase it-. Just now, it is not summer anymore and we don’t have the gas connected as yet which means.. No hot water and no heating. Brrrr! It is really cold now, ..our first winter in the mountains… We are not sleeping there as yet, well we don’t have anything there.. imagine, we bought one of those inflatable beds to have at least somewhere to sit while we are cleaning and finding all the tricks of the house.

It is raining like crazy in Madrid these days and surprise!!.. we found a damp spot and even a balling pump in the corner. So this area we will need to study and take good care of before we go back.

www.whatijustlove.com

We had already the house warming event ( not party, although we were all very merry!).. as some friends came and helped us to start the chimney (now you see the house warming part of the event! ;). It was great. I loved the smell of the wood and the chimney, together with the pines and trees around the house. Just amazing! To you all, Cheers!!

www.whatijustlove.com

Today it is the “Dia de Reyes Magos” in Spain. This tradition is very unique to us, as everybody just do Santa on the 25th of December.

In Spain we have three “santas”.. the Three Wise men of Orient. Maybe they are coming from Dubai with the camels and all, who knows!..

Every child has one favorite wise men. Mine was Baltasar (black one), the others are Melchor (white beard) and Gaspar (blonde/red beard).

They were the ones that on the Bible, when Jesus was born in Bethlehem, came following a star to adore him. They gave Jesus three presents: myrrh, gold and incense. Probably because they were the first ones giving presents to a child, that they stayed with us and our traditions. So children will write a letter to the Reyes Magos and ask for their presents and try to convince them that they were good during the last year and they deserve them.

The Reyes are very clever and if you didn’t behave properly during the year instead of presents they will bring you coal (it is sugar, so still it is nice..). well, I wish you lots of love and happiness, no matter if the Reyes or Santa are the ones delivering.

GIVENCHY SWIMCAP HAIR

Hi dears,

I saw this funky hair in the Paris Fashion Week reviews in the Givenchy runway show and it is so unique that I have to love it.

givenchy 4b9adaa22230f0109b8cdf6a735577aa

It is not really for the day to day. I think it means a lot of work because every lock of hair is kept in place with hairpins making look as little roses, and then coloured  or maybe viceversa- coloured and later pinned..we might need to ask Luigi Murenu, genius behind this hair style.

Beautiful, stunning and very time consuming. It looks like one of those swimcaps from the fifties, don’t you think?

PIM PAM PUM …PEPLUM

Hi gorgeous!

I found this new word and I love it.. Peplum.. leave aside the sound of the word itself (sorry, I find it fun), I love the image behind the word and goes straight to the Fashionese- English dictionary.

The peplum comes from the greek word peplos.. remember those very cool tunics that were tied by a brooch over the shoulders and tied with a belt at the waistline or over?.. That is the origin of the peplums.

www.whatijustlove.com

Now, they have have evolved and are the little skirt on the tops or jackets, well or dresses or skirts or trousers.. you can find them everywhere!!

They are very flattering as they go with the curves on the waistline. True also that depending on the cut if a skirt, they might shorten your leg lenght but well, use heels with no ankle strap. ;). Also avoid the super frilly ones as it will look very bulky on your hips and could make you look bigger.

Peplum makes such an statement that you will find terms such as peplum siluette, peplum cut and peplum style.

You can find peplums now in every shop as they are so much in vogue. These are my favourites pics harvested from Pinterest, and the wide wild web..

Hope you like them too!

JUST BE HAPPY

Hi dears,

These last weeks something is going on.. some of my closest friends are kind of down, sad, depressed.. different reasons behind, some I might agree, some are “no way, get out” situations..

All this brought back to me the reasons why I started a very special list and eventually decided even to start this blog. We all have ups and downs. It is life and there is not much we can do about it. Well, actually I am of the opinion that there is a lot we can do.

We all face, at a given moment in time, problems, difficult decisions, fears that will block us, restrictions set by others (or the worst of them all, by us) and also sheer happines, amazing emotions from love, friendship, joy, just pure joy for no reason…ups and downs.

We might not be able to control what comes from outside, but we can control how we let it affect us. Allow me to share one of my tricks..

Le questionaire

Think now about whatever is bugging you.. is there something you can do about it? Then do it (now, yes, now). If not, then don’t worry, as it is not in your hands. At least dont let it sink your mood, dont let it alter your sleep, don’t let it change your pretty smile.

If you can not do it right now or it is actually a lot of things that could be done, do a list with your action points and check them as soon as they are done.

The Happy- list

Normally I am a very optimistic person, happy to be and all that jazz but some years ago I had some important downs in my life and by recomendation I started a very special list of the things that make me happy. Seems easy? Uff! You can not imagine how hard is to see the bright side of things when you are insecure, unhappy, sad, and dont trust a single person on Earth.. (Yep! It was very bad).

I had to concentrate on beautiful things, songs I liked, past happy events, simple things like the soft texture of a fabric, the smell of the rain in my hometown or the taste of dark chocolate (<3) and bit by bit, first by almost obligation and later by habitude, I started to have a kind of decent list. Just the fact of focusing on those things -instead of bleeeep- , actually was changing my mood. Those feelings, those simple thoughts, were such a blessing as they were a distraction from the pain and from destructive thoughts.

Faith and Gratitude

I learned that no matter what.. there is always light after the tunnel, the sun always comes after the storm and hearts are more flexible that doctors will ever believe.

I still write on the list and some of the things, I post them here. The name of the blog is the name of the list and now it is much easier to acknowledge how lucky we are, what great lives we are living and how amazing is life with all its rollercoaster curves and standstill silence moments.

Practice makes perfect so I recommend you start your happy-list today and thank God, the Universe, or whatever you believe in, for those simple happy moments. When you are down, just go back to your list, try to recover the emotion, the feeling of happiness that you felt when you chose that thing, that memory for your list… be grateful because if you like this sunset, there is people that might no been able to see it, enjoy your food, as some are struggling and call your mum, as she is missing you and will give you love-credits to feel supported.

Oh! my.. I hope the post is not too long because I still want to invite you to start a shared happy-list on the facebook page of the blog. The link for the event is here..Just copy and paste on the navigation panel.

www.facebook.com/events/547360712018227/

Lets create a list of happy-things that in case any one of our entourage is needing, is there.. add freely and invite your friends to add their happy moments too. Post messages, pictures, quotes, whatever makes you smile.

Share the love and Just be happy!

WHAT I JUST LOVE.. MY NEW SHOES!!!

Hello my dears,

Last week I went shopping and I found that Kurt Geiger has 50% discount on many models until the 31st of October. I like their shoes very much and found some beauties for my ravioli feet at very good price. 😉

They have some really beautiful shoes.Too bad that my feet are so small and not of all the discounted models they had my size. At the end the winner is:

la foto 2 www.whatijustlove.com

I took them already to the office and they looked great with a pencil skirt but the color and those studs make it lady like and rock and roll at the same time, so I am going to wear them with jeans and with my black cigarette pants. They are so versatile that, truth to be told, I can mix them with most of my wardrobe.

www.whatijustlove.com

My recommendation is to go and check what they have in store and take profit of the discount- 50% is not bad at all!!. I went to the shop in Dubai Mall- in front of the Level Shoe District, but they have all over UAE. And this is the link if you like to buy online. The discount is also available there.

I fell in love and so can you!

Luv,

Lil

WHAT I JUST LOVE.. A GOOD TIME WITH MY NEW SISTERS AT SISTERS.

Yesterday, it was fun.. We hold our first Meet up for the Dubai Fashion & Lifestyle Bloggers Community, a new Meet up Shaheen and me have been putting together for the last few weeks. Could you believe there was not such a community, association or group for bloggers with fashion or lifestyle as main topic in Dubai?..(Hellooo, I insist .. in Dubai!).

I guess Dubai itself it is a bit like that, so fast paced, everybody minding their own business. A bloggers set of mind requires some time and space to research, write, go to events, take pics, and work on the unique content we always want to offer,.. and it feels a bit lonely sometimes. When we met we both felt the gap right there and eventually she started the meet up and I volunteer to assist her.

The Meet up took place at the Sisters Beauty Lounge in The Village Mall (Jumeirah area). The saloon has a very nice atmosphere and has a separate area for nails (manis and pedis), another for hair treatments, another section for facials, waxing and massage and even a very cute Kerastase bar with a russian lady that knows a whole lot about all the Kerastase products and what goes well to what type of hair. I am going to follow her advise on a few tips. Since I arrived to Dubai my hair is in serious misshape and I tried so many things with not always the expected results, I am still looking for the right product, the right hairdresser, the right treatment..

www.whatijustlove.com

All paying attention to the explanation of the hair expert @ Sisters saloon.

The branch manager of Sisters showed us their premises, provided all the attendees with drinks and small tapas and offered us a bag with goodies and samples to test and a free mani or pedi (gorgeous coral toes- Thanks Michelle!). It was 10 of us so we got them busy for a while. The bloggers sisterhood at the Sisters saloon.

I am so glad to be part of this Meet up. The attendees were all amazing and had lots of ideas to improve and make the group really thrive. Everything is about helping each other, learning, developing relationships with one another, with the press, with the brands, growing personally and “blogger-ssionally”. (if where you missing my leliquistani.. there you go!). ;). I loved the energy and the camaraderie between all of us.

Let me introduce you some of the blogs of my fellow DF&L Bloggers. If you have a minute check them out. We are all in a path to self improvement and we love to have your feedback, so please comment, engage, like, share..
