MY TAKE ON LANVIN

Hi dears!

Recently I wrote about some gorgeous Lanvin necklaces (to review blog post click here) and this is my take.

Whatijustlove.comLooks cool eh!.. I got it done at The Wired Up shop in Dubai Mall. A little shop on the way to the dancing fountains in Dubai Mall. They have them in Silver and Golden wire and can add different stones or shapes to it. I loved this turquoise shiney stone and we mixed it with the white for extra cuteness.

Lil

IS IT CLEAR??

By now, you probably have seen already these Lanvin loud and clear Mian’s- Messages in a Necklace! – I just made it up. Dont think that is the real name, but.. sounds good, doesn’t it?

What messages I am talking about?.. Lol.. This is what I call a good subtitle. I have seen so far “Cools”, “Happys”, “Loves” and “Helps” around. The Lanvin’s are probably a bit expensive for my budget- more now, after the intense Christmas and January sales sprees-  but I think we can replicate with wire and customize it to our liking…

What do you think? What message would you want?

Luv,

Lil

MEET THE COMMITTEE

Not long ago, I meet Anita Buys at one blogging event with Teresa Karpinska from styledrifter.com that The Curve was organising. You might remember the blog post with the invitation. She is really something else, charming, intelligent, beautiful and really sweet.

www.whatijustlove.com

She launched just recently The Committee, and I feel very honoured to be part of it. She brings together women: bloggers, entrepreneurs, PR’s and give them the perfect platform to mingle, to get to know each other, to try new products or services and to give our opinion about them.

Our January meeting was at Icons Coffee Couture, a new place in Souk Al Bahar. It is on the second floor, a little bit hidden but way worthy to look for. It is managed by Elena Weber – a beautiful german ex-model that is really passionate about her business.

The entire concept of Icons spins about solving the dilema – eating yummy or eating healthy.. we know now that there are multiples solutions to it. One of them, kind of different, is offered at Icons.

When you reach the counter, you see all these croissants, muffins, cakes, sweets (OMG!),.. well, there is no sugar on them. They use stevia instead, which is super healthy, 100% natural and doesnt have calories. Stevia has almost cero effect on blood glucose so here, in the UAE, where there is so many people suffering from diabetes, it is the place to go endulge yourself.

They also have soups, sandwiches, salads (try the chicken one) and shakes. I really enjoyed the Snow White Shake -with no coffee. I love also the fact that they have wifi. My husband followed my advice already and went to work there just recently. He loves working in cafeterias and well, Icons it is just perfect.

The meeting was very nice, with delicious food, a very pleasant atmosphere and even a personal trainer/nutricionist giving us some extra info and answering questions. I got to meet amazing ladies that are each one of them very inspiring to me from clutch designers, journalists, PR’s and fellow bloggers to fitness entrepreneurs.

I leave you to check some pics of the event. Luckily Anita arranged for a photographer, because I went straight from the office with no time to pick up the camera. Some are already on Insta (@whatijustloveblog).

Lots of Luv,

Lil

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX…MARKET OTB

Hi dears,

Dubai is a box full of surprises and these days, even more. I hope you had the chance to visit the new shopping spot. It is not a mall, no, not this time.

Located at the Burj Park and only during 10 days, we can enjoy the Market Outside The Box, but well, in a way it is a market in a box, in many boxes as a matter of fact. You know how I love all this portable, resilient and so adaptable containers. At the end of the day I have been doing procurement and logistics for a good part of my life and now I am working in some projects having containers as lego pieces… containers to be gas stations, to be schools, to be shops, to be businesses.. all for the off the grid areas, for cool-looking district areas, for temporary use like the Olympics ( or not so temporary, a container can last forever really). I have seen a project of luxury villas by the beach made totally out of containers and they look so amazingly chic and modern. Even the swimming pool was a container!!

Being Dubai, with Jebel Ali, the hub for so many shipping lines I just can not understand how this great idea was not implemented before. We could have -at the base of the Jebel Ali Palm for example- a fixed park with shops and cafeterias to enjoy the seaside and the views. Make it colorful, such as this one, make it hippie chic and people will go there to spend their mornings on lazy weekends. You can add cladding with branding and you will never know it is done with containers. Keep it as is, use used containers (reuse) and you will have the industrial look.

Create a chill-out music lounge and you can monetise it too during the nights serving mojitos and caipirinhas. These initiatives are aligned with the Sustainabilty that EXPO 2020 is aiming for and that, in my humble opinion, the city must work hard to achieve.

Well, enough for now.. Lol! and let me share for you the pics I took on that day.

This is the general view of the area. My lovely Burj Khalifa is on the side. One day, I will live there or have my own office there, or something there.. I just love this building so much. My friends try to find kinky reasons ( Freud will be proud of them), but it is just that I like this clean, neat, sharp, unique architecture. Khalas!

The shops were very nicely done, with space inside and outside. Some created this mingle area outside and were serving limeade and other drinks.

Shoppers were really cute at this market. Don’t you think? 😉

Jamjar had organised quite a lot of activities for all ages during these days. Children definitely always have a blast. Look at the little blond Van Gogh painting!

The shops inside are really cool and I fell in love with this one selling Maria Iqbal’s bags and turbans. It is called Be You and they have some T shirts with super positive messages from Lorna Jane. This is their facebook page.

Pink is back to my heart and when I found this bike, I couldnt help myself. I come from a family of cyclists. My daddy was even a professional back on the days- but he had a bad lesion and had to stop it. My brother is everything about soccer and bikes. I have never compete but just to be around, it kind of grows on you. Oh! All those memories of childhood holidays with the bikes on top of the car and once I got my driving license, my duty as Support car. Lol.. Time has passed but these memories will stay with me forever!

And this is the Market’s photocall. Ain’t it cool? By the way, Yallah is like “Lets go”, “Hurry up”,”Come on”, “Venga, vamos”, “Geh mal”, “Allez, depeche toi”.. in arabic is used all the time. Also means like “all right” depending on the context.

One of the shops is called Bullets and Butterflies. There I found this gorgeous wooden frames. I like them a lot, My only concern is if I could replace the glass with my prescription ones ( me cant seh, dah!). I have to go to the optician and find out! Check their website if you want to see their cool stuff.

We spent most of the afternoon there as you can see and when we were about to leave, something beautiful happened. This!

Honestly, it is the best place to enjoy the fountains and there is not too much people, so it is great for videos and camera addicts ( such as me..).

I hope you enjoyed me sharing my day with you. Please share the love and like and share on your page the facebook page and the blog’s dominion.

LEOPARD ROARRRR

Hi dears,

Wherever you look this days you can see this print and it looks goorrrgeous. I used to perceive it as ‘too wild for this baby” but now I love it… Maybe it is because once everybody has it on, it looks less dangerous.

I need to get me one of these..

HOW DO I GET A JOB IN DUBAI?- SERIES. PART3.

Ok, so by now you have a Linkedin profile -even though it still might be basic- and now you can start being social.

You can invite your friends, colleagues at university, at work, at school, neighbours… All your contacts. That way you will start creating a little community… you never know where from a referral for a job might come and it might happen to you too that I have friends for the longest time and I didn’t know what were they doing professionally until we got connected through Linkedin. There are synergies that you might not be aware of.

Once you have all your contacts invited, you can start looking for groups that are interesting professionally to you. One important thing, Linkedin is professional, it is not Facebook, it is not Twitter… it is a social platform for professionals, so keep the etiquette and post things that could be relevant or interesting to your job/ sector or similar. No holiday picture here, ok? Unless you are a Lonely Planet editor of course. No pictures of the family gathering either. As a rule, just think that your future employer might be seeing you and that you have other social networks for you to put that type of content.

If you are looking for a job, in your extract there is a way to publish it. A brief note at the very beginning saying “looking for new horizons” or “looking for new opportunities”… that will send the message to whoever sees your profile. Careful though, if you are still working somewhere else and you add your colleagues at work or boss. They will also receive the message.

Getting back to the groups. If you are looking for a job in Dubai, there are some groups that could be interesting:

  • Dubai Recruitment
  • Wizeefa
  • Gulf
  • Gulf recruitment
  • Bayt.com

These are some of the local ones that could interest you. Some of them are selective so you might need to wait for their approval. My suggestion is that you look in the search box within Linkedin, using the drop down menu going into “groups”. Use keywords like “Dubai jobs”, or “UAE jobs” or if you are looking for a particular sector like fashion “Dubai Fashion jobs” or in construction use keywords like “Dubai Construction jobs”.. be creative and look around for the groups that might help your search or you keeping abreast of the news of your sector. The maximum amount of groups you can be part of is 50. Take that into account in case you need to be selective.

I now leave you busy looking for groups and contacts to get “linked in”.

More to come in the next post of the series.

Lots of luv,

Lil

GIVENCHY SWIMCAP HAIR

Hi dears,

I saw this funky hair in the Paris Fashion Week reviews in the Givenchy runway show and it is so unique that I have to love it.

givenchy 4b9adaa22230f0109b8cdf6a735577aa

It is not really for the day to day. I think it means a lot of work because every lock of hair is kept in place with hairpins making look as little roses, and then coloured  or maybe viceversa- coloured and later pinned..we might need to ask Luigi Murenu, genius behind this hair style.

Beautiful, stunning and very time consuming. It looks like one of those swimcaps from the fifties, don’t you think?

My favorite is pink but all of them look very cute.
