Michael Kors

Michael Kors and Mall of the Emirates are celebrating!

Recently I went to the Michael Kors store in Mall of the Emirates for a very nice event. The Mall is on its 10 anniversary and Michael Kors did a special line of bags as a celebration.

The shop was nicely decorated exposing the special “10th Year of MOE” collection and all the rest of the standard collection. Maria Elena, my partner in crime came along also. We enjoyed the drinks and the cute canapes, and got to see some other fellow bloggers. I was coming right after work, exhausted and tired but I must say that it was worthy just to have some social life and get to see new things. Some times, when deadlines are in your neck, you get that very dangerous tunnel vision and stop going out, thinking constantly in work and office stuff.

This came as a very nice break, that made me realise that I need to stop and smell the roses, in my case,.. enjoy the amazing city I live in.

I am going to leave you with some pics of the event, but hey! I work in education, and you can not miss my notes about Michael Kors, the brand, the man and a little bit about all in between.

About Michael Kors

  • Was born Karl Anderson Jr, but later changed his name and also his surname as her mother remarried Bill Kors. From Karl Anderson Jr to Michael David Kors.
  • He is a Leo (09/08/1959)
  • Started studying at the Fashion Institute of Technology but never finished.
  • His mom was a model, there you might have some “fashionable” influence.
  • From when he was 5 he showed signs of fashion designer vocation.. He drew the wedding dress of his mom for her second wedding.
  • When a teenager, he was producing and selling his clothes from the basement of his house.
  • He started to work in a Boutique that allowed him to start selling his products, eventually Bergdorf Goodman liked his designs and got to be showcased in buyers meetings.
  • 1981 Michael Kors launched his brand for womenswear.
  • 1993 hit hard with bankruptcy. The brand stopped and recover only in 1997 creating a cheaper line.
  • 1997 Michael Kors joined Celine for women’s ready to wear.
  • 2002 The menswear line is launched.
  • 2003 Michael Kors left Celine.
  • 2011 Michael Kors married his long time partner Lance LePere.
  • Now the brand has over 350 shops around the world.
  • Kors has participated in Project Runway as judge and has been nominated many times in Times magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the World.
  • 2013 He received the Couture Council Award. he also has the Geoffrey Beene lifetime achievement award from CFDA.
  • He is a good person.. he worked for years with charities (“God’s love we deliver” to take care of feeding HIV and AIDs patients) and Cancer Research (Oliver R. Grace Award by the Cancer Research Institute).
  • Today the brand has two main lines.. the Michael Kors luxury collection and the Michael, accessible luxury collection.
  • He has a personal wealth of over a billion dollars according to Forbes.

I always find inspiring to know about the designers lives. Michael Kors is like a modern phoenix, coming back to life after bankruptcy must not be easy, but talent and perseverance made him back to the top.

FINALLY URBAN STREET STYLE IN DUBAI.. At SOLE DXB

Hi dears!!

This last weekend at the site where our awaited D3 -Dubai Design District- is being built there was a rather unconventional event. What made it different was that, for once ,it was not totally glamorous and bling bling! It was street style but not with high heels and Gucci bags in the middle of Dubai Marina.. It was urban street style as in New York, London or Madrid ( yep!  we also have!).

V. I. S: Very Important Sneakers

The total king of the event were the sneakers.. all over, there were shops selling or just displaying them. The other king was the sun.. high up on Friday morning and we were all missing some shade. At the Ray Ban booth we even helped a girl that was feeling dizzy because of too much sun and heat.

Me and my partner in crime, Maria Elena,  walked all the booths.. we saw the shoes, the sneakers, the clothes, the bags, the sunnies,  the bicycles, the puma shop, the food stalls, the caps, the Minis.. I love the Minis, and the reinvention of the gipsy van using them was so cool!

WWW.WHATIJUSTLOVE.COMWWW.WHATIJUSTLOVE.COM URBAN STREET STYLEUrban Art

There were some graffiti artists working to give the total alternative urban look to the event.. Remi Rough was working on a quite high wall and needed a lift to create his abstract griffitis. Antoine Tavaglione or Tava was having fun with a pink Garfield close to our soles.. we also had fun as you can see!

WWW.WHATIJUSTLOVE.COMWWW.WHATIJUSTLOVE.COMBooths & more

Right in the center, there was a basketball field where people could play and also areas to skateboard around. The shops where hosted in containers, versatile, mobile, easy to transport and with the total urban look. The Puma and the Reebok were my favorites. The Puma because of the bikes. The Reebok one because it was bringing all the nostalgia back to me.. see why?.. Who didn’t have one of these babies in our teenager years?

WWW.WHATIJUSTLOVE.COMMy thoughts

As usual I have some comments on Sole DXB.. The price was ok ( 50 Dhs) but it was quite difficult to reach. If you do not have a car with an updated GPS, all I can say, is Good luck!. The D3 is all mystery for me and I really wanted to see the insides and heart of the Design district but all of it is blocked as it is still in construction. I understand the restriction to enter as there is still a lot of works going on and it would be a liability and a risk to allow visitors in. As it was not as ready, I would have maybe chosen a different location.. closer to Dubai.

The sun and the heat was an issue. For next year please some “sunbrellas” or some more shade. Water and drinks were available for free and that was a big plus!. People were nice and ambiance was really great. There were supposed to be talks, but they were delayed and we decided that we will skip them because the place looked really “in the process” and we were not sure how long would it take to get finished. Same thing happened with The Level Shoe District.. Not even close to ready by the time we left.

I know we know that all the visitors to any venue or event in Dubai tend to come late ( actually very late), but I still find it too bad that the organizers are not ready when they are supposed to.

Well, that is all for now. If you have any questions or comments you would want to add, please feel free in the comment section.

Lots of luv,

REEMAMI at The Cartel

Hi dears,

This Thursday was great! Yep! Normally my favorite day of the week is Friday ( I was born on a snowy Friday, which in Madrid is kind of unusual!). But this Thursday was great because I had a blast. After a very intense week of work and many sleepless nights because I miss my hubby, I gathered the energy to get to The Cartel with my friend Rizza to see the special edition of Reemami.

You might have seen already the Frida print everywhere… but in color. For The Cartel it will be in Black and White, their signature colors. The event was great, with VBP (very beautiful people) and with Reema Al Banna around for questions and pics. I like her a lot. We meet at an event when she was the face of Samsung, kind of a fashion incubator and she was the mentor.. I dream of having such a cool mentor, but I was far from ready to join the program.

Reema had a great idea and now her brand is easy to identify. The print is totally unique, coming out of children’s version of Frida’s self portraits. Unibrow is the name of the collection by the way. Frida was unique, her art, her life, her intense love and despair.. in one of my trips to Mexico I visited her house, now museum, in Coyoacan, Mexico DF. It was just one of the most enlightening experiences.. out of pain, beauty.

Natasha D’Souza, my lovely neighbor, is now part of The Cartel’s team. She is so much fun and really the event was so very well organized I need to praise her and the team’s work. There were Nail art, a DJ, live painting, yummy sushi and finger food, colorful drinks, models posing around and I got to see some fellow bloggers and friends. Honestly, it couldnt have been better!

The Cartel’s pieces are out of the ordinary and every time I visit them they have new cool stuff. I recommend you to visit them. Although is off the beaten path in Al Quoz is not difficult to find and it is absolutely worthy.

Here you have some pics!

Besito,

Lil

WHAT I JUST SAW… LUCY

And I recommend it a lot!. Scarlett is just such an impressive actress. She and Morgan Freeman just nailed it. The movie is goes pretty fast and there is action, a bit of philosophy and to me.. a lot of after thinking. If you have the chance, go watch it.. it is worthy.

Little advice

Avoid to come to the cinemas in the JBR- Marina area. As much as I love it here, the traffic jams right now are just too much as they are closing lanes due to the tram construction. If still you want to come to the cinemas at The Beach make sure you have patience and time to be 45 minutes to 1 hour in traffic so that you dont miss the movie. 😉

Little anecdote

Please note that it is PG 15, ok?… For some reason they asked me at the cinema a zillion times if I was actually over 15.. I thought I was not understanding properly and “my logical brain” translated it as “50” ( hellooo, long are the days that they asked me for the ID!!).. I was all upset until the lady insisted .. 1.. 5… Boy! That made me smile!

Good nite!

AHA!!! THE CREAM

WWW.WHATIJUSTLOVE.COMHi dears!

Today I wanted to share with you my thoughts on the Aha Cream. Yep! That is the name. I have been using it for already a month or even a bit more and I must say it is now part of my daily routine.

The two things I like most  of the cream….firstly, the texture, that is very rich. It feels great on the skin- like skin food- and secondly, the smell, like herbs, like nature. I like the smell, althought my husband not so much. It is a bit intense when you just apply it, but it dissapears quite fast.

I love the way my skin feels after using it, and so I recommend it very much. It is part of Herbline and it is 100% organic with ingredients from the Himalayas. Why I started to use it? Because this cream it is like an exfoliator and it helps even my freckles, it is great for dry skin -which is one of the Dubai dramas- and it promised rejuvenation and revitalization of the skin. All of it, fully compliant!.

Just yesterday I went to a Beauty Salon to do a facial with my dear Daniela. The place is located in the Garhoud area and it is called Patsi Collins- and the lady admired my skin!! After having so many issues with my skin and hair when I moved to Dubai, I felt so great that at least one of the two is getting fixed! 😉 Yuhuuuu!!

Lots of Luv,

Leli

WHAT TIME IS IT?

It came to my curious eyes that Tissot, the swiss watch brand par excellence, is launching a new campaign and when I saw the pics, I fell in love and wanted to share with you the ladies watches and the ads that caught my attention.

www.whatijustlove.com Deepika_Lady

The lady in pink is Danica Patrick, an american autoracing driver (well, and model!) and the lady in blue is Deepika Padukene, a Bollywood actress.

Both look absolutely amazing with their shiney watches and their pretty dresses. I can not choose which one I like most… and you? Do you have a favourite?

Luv,

Lil

A GLAMBOX SITUATION

Hi dears!

Today is 5th of April and my security – concierge – smiley guy that helps me with doors and bags when super loaded, tells me with a smirk.- Miss, I have something for you.- I am subscribed to tons of magazines so I thought it was that. But noooo, this month I received my first Glambox at home!! I was so excited I couldn’t wait to be up in the apartment.

This concept is amazing, it is like any other subscription but you get instead beauty products.. all of them fantastic and glamorous. How I got to know about this treat? Last month’s Glambox was an exclusivity with Nivea and I LUV Nivea, so they called me for a short video. Check it here, love, like and share as much as you can.

YouTube Preview Image

It was fun, fun, fun.. and it is that I learnt all details about Glambox. You pay between 71 and 80 Dhs per month depending on the package you choose and once a month you get your Glambox delivered at your doorstep. I love to receive stuff and this feels like someone is reading your mind and putting all together in a pinky package for you.

Check out what comes in this April’s Glambox.. I did a funky video with all of them on Instagram .. Lol.

YouTube Preview Image
  • 2 sachets of Herbline Essentials- with Aloe vera and Honey Hydra 5 gel.
  • 2 products of Caudalie- one day perfecting fluid cream with SPF15 and other hand and nail cream with antioxidants.
  • 1 palette of Inglot – silver colour!- Glam, Glam, Glam- with a mirror and a cute brush.
  • 1 big brush from Glambox – they have all the set available on the Glambox shop. 😉
  • 1 Sunscreen SPF30 from Hawaiian Tropic.
  • 1 Dove Body Cream with shea butter and vanilla.

Just this weekend I got to go to the beach on Friday and to the pool on Saturday.. What do I need? Sunscreen!! My Nivea sunspray is about to be finished so.. tachan! When that happens I will start the Hawaiian Tropic. I looooove the smell! It takes me back to my days in Jamaica.. Nostalgia is so bad!!

www.whatijustlove.com

Dove and I have been in love for already a number of years ( too many to count!) as I worked in the PR agency that started them in Spain (my best regards to the amazing team of Burson Marsteller now spread all over the world, muac.. love you guys!).  At that time we were testing the waters, trying to educate the population in the concept.. We would ask, ..What would you think if I tell you that you can have a moisturizer and a shower gel all in one without feeling greasy and actually cleaning? Same with the shampoo and moisturizer.. People couldn’t believe it initially. That account was fun, we did amazing stuff!. 🙂

I loved the product from day one and now I use most of the range -I need to mention the Dove hair fall rescue… blessings to whoever brought it up!!. Simone Heng helped me restock it as she is brand ambassador here in Dubai and adding to the fact that she is a great blogger, she is a super down to earth lovely person. Check her blog if you have a minute.

Herbline, Caudalie and Inglot are new to me but I will be testing them and sharing with you my thoughts.

The Glambox came also with some very cool vouchers:

  • Nstyle Voucher for a polish change.
  • A gift voucher of 500 Dhs from Wellbeing Medical Centre for a laser treatment or and Ultrasound cavitation treatment.

See my happy face.. I am going to try them all!! Nstyle I can already recommend and will you believe it!.. Just this week I was in Wellbeing Medical.. not for laser or cavitation but to get my neck fixed. Dr Gary Fitzgerald is my osteopath and my neck has this bad habit of getting stiff – I call it jiraffitis, doctors call it torticulis. So when you go, if you see him, say hi from me!

Luv,

Lil

MICHELLE BELAU

Hi dears!!

Last week, during the Dubai Food Festival (the name already sounds so yummy!), there was a rather different and lovely event I attended.. It was the Taste of Peru and it was organised by the Peruvian Embassy and the PR’s in TOH between others.

In the Amphitheatre in Madinat Jumeirah, they mixed two of the things I like most: food and fashion . I added another F to the equation.. -achtung with your thoughts! as I mean Friends! Seema and Julie were there too!!.

IMG_1626

On the food side they showcased ceviche, empanadas, and many other tapas-sizes delicious dishes. On the runway, it was time to shine for Michelle Belau and Carlos Vigil. Two very talented fashion designers from Peru.

Allow me to introduce you to.. Michelle Belau!! In a different post I will show you Carlos Vigil amazing creations.

Lucia Cavero- the designer behind Michelle Belau- has beautiful and very wearable dresses. I fell in love with the shirt dresses, good for every occasion -including the office!. They have just opened a shop in City Walk- so good eh!.

See the covers for the head??I absolutely love them and was conspiring to do my own based on a very famous queen of Spain – Isabel (History reminder, yep!: the Catholic Kings). Like a year ago RTVE (spanish TV), started the broadcast of a TV series with her life and achievements and her dresses are to die for!! It is funny that the name of the actress in the role of Isabel is also called Michelle. 😉

Belau has beautiful silhouettes, simple yet sophisticated lines and they look comfy on top of it all. I would wear them all!!

Now the evidence,.. see the pics.

GET GAUDI-ING!!

Recently I got invited to a new shop opening. I have seen the store getting ready in Dubai Mall and it was a nice surprise when I received the invitation from the PR agency. Thanks Heena!!

By the way, there is another shop in Dubai Festival City in case you live in the other part of town, so get gaudi-ing to one or the other. The little geek in me wants to share that Gaudi comes from Gaudere in latin… meaning Joy.. Ok,and a super famous spanish architect – soul of Barcelona- has also the same name ( have you ever been in the Holy Family Church?). Behind the name there is happiness and beauty.

The store breaths all that, it is very nice and the clothes are vibrant, full of colours – specially greens, turquoises, yellows, fucsias, blacks and whites.. they had a small runway organised and were showing the present collection. I fell in love with this black jumpsuit!

Whatijustlove.com

As an italian brand they also have shoes and bags.. well, no more coments, you know I am crazy about these babies.

DSC_0038 whatijustlove.com

The clothes are casual, fresh, very comfy and femenine, although they also have a section for our better halves. The style is young and smart, effortlessly cool..
