My new Turkish Telkari earrings .. Thanks Elianne!

Turkish Telkari Earrings- What I just loveHi dears,

Elianne has been a contributor to my passion for earrings from around the world and she bought me these classic lovelies in her last trip to Turkey recently.

They are handcrafted in silver wire using a technique called Telkari and are sold under the brand Seyahan. You know me, the researcher ( CSI- Dubai!) … and I found some info about this very old technique.

A Bit of History

“Archaeological finds in ancient Mesopotamia indicate that filigree was incorporated into jewelry since 3,000 BC. Specific to the city of Midyat in Mardin Province in upper Mesopotamia, a form of filigree using silver and gold wires, known as “telkari”, was developed in the 15th Century. To this day, expert craftsmen in this region continue to produce fine pieces of telkari.”

Well, that’s what the Wikipedia says.. and I believe it!- For some reason, whatever Google or Wiki says stands as totally true to me.

These particular earrings are coming from that city: Mydiat, from an Syriac orthodox family workshop, and what they have been doing for generations is to weld the 925 silver wire and twist it until it looks like this delicate lacework. It amazes me the work and the tradition behind it. .. 3000 years Before Christ.. wow!

Thanks Elianne !! My earrings collection just got upgraded thanks to you and your good taste!. I love my new Turkish Telkari earrings!! Now I will feel like Helena of Troy or Nefertiti when I am wearing them.!! Lol.. So full of history! You hear!

Lots of luv,

Leli

BACK IN DUBAI.. BACK TO MYSELF

hand-heart-shape-sky-facebook-cover

Hi my dears!

It has been a while since my last post.. almost a month. I am sorry.. all my efforts to try to post more regularly were just vanished, just dissapeared ..you know sometimes life throws things and situations at you that require your full attention and now, a month later I am still there.. with my mind lost somewhere between stress, sadness and limbo.

This last month, month and a half has been crazy.. I normally dont get too personal in this blog.. it is about fashion, lifestyle.. it is supposed to talk about something that doesnt hurt ( even if sometimes certain styles may hurt our eyes), it is supposed to stand by the name -what I just love- not what makes me think or what makes me sad or what makes me just want to give up.. but all those feelings are very present in my life too. I guess in todays days we all want to look picture perfect and this aint pretty.. feelings are actually quite messy.

Anyways, just bear with me while I try to get back on my feet and feel the happy vibrant me again. I miss me.. so it is my duty number one. I wanted to do so many things this September -October.. I wanted to attend and enjoy Fashion Forward, I wanted to help Maria Iqbal to prepare for it, I wanted to go to Gitex, learn a zillion things related to mobile apps and technology, I wanted to attend the Spanish Embassy for our national day, design more bags, push a new blog in spanish and keep on writing for my friends and fellows,.. one very interesting collaboration with Mona has been bugging me but I just could not write a word.. I just couldnt even call.. I felt blocked. Sorry dears.. I just realised I am so very human that it scares me.

Bit by bit, one step at a time..

Luv,

Leli

WHAT THE OKRYUGWAN!!!

Oh! Wow! We know Dubai is a melting pot with people from all walks of life, countries, cultures and languages. If you follow me on Instagram you will know too that I am a foodie and I am keen on trying any cuisine, but this one.. Boy! It was a surprise! Great Surprise for my palate!

Some months ago my husband and me decided to start looking for new places to dine. We think the Bur Dubai, Deira and Karama areas will hold great secrets and we were just driving – no GPS- until we would find something eye catching and stop to give it a try. From this experiment, some times we had not the best results, but this one time I must say, I honestly enjoyed it.

The restaurant is called Okryugwan – dont ask me what it means, not a clue-  and it is inside one hotel -Royal Ascot or something similar. I am not sure where it is, but you can check it on Time Out Dubai, because there is not that many North Korean restaurants in the world (around 12 in our planet). It looks like these restaurants are operated by the North Korean Government to acquire foreign currency and to maintain the expenses of the embassies.

Honestly, we decided on it because at the entrance there was a beautifully dressed lady. Lol! This is what happens when you let us decide! She was wearing the traditional korean dress in baby blue and she was all smiles. The dress is absolutely gorgeous!

I have this fetish of buying traditional dresses and earrings in my travels (or my husbands!). I never  or very rarely wear the dresses outside home but I feel I have a piece of the country and the culture. If any one of you have the chance to get one of these korean dresses, remember me!

The place is not the shiny gold and modern luxurious decor Dubai  has us accustomed to. It is pretty basic, feels like one of those chinese old restaurants back home. The food is very nice, but be aware, when it says spicy or hot, it really is.

The one thing you can not miss is the korean barbeque. It is very traditional and very yummy. In some other Korean restaurants they give you a plate of raw meat or fish and start the bbq, the cooking is for you to do.  The bbq is right at your own table. There is like a hole and inside it is the grill. At Okryugwan they do the bbq for you, so we had our gorgeous waitress show cooking for us.

Other thing I liked a lot were the dim sums. The pastry filled with chicken were delicious. I totally recommend you to try them. The soups were very nice too.. we choose one with kimchy – not knowing what it was really, but it looked like cabbage- here is when things got too hard to swallow. The flavour was very nice but it was really hot.  Spice is cumulative so the first spoons were ok, the rest were.. too much for me. 😉 (fire extinguisher situation)

Here you have my pics. If you go, let me know your thoughts.

Luv,

Lil

OH! WHAT A BLISS!

Is it me or lately I feel like I am running from point A to B like crazy? At the office, there is quite a lot of work but I rather be busy than bored. I am the kind of person that needs to be motivated, always on the go, learning and doing new things.. Thank God my job gives all of that and also I have this little corner on the internet where I can release my mental wanderings for your entertainment and my astonishment.

This time I am going to share with you my experience with some Bliss products I got as samples to try at an event in Icons Coffee Couture. I love the cute little size of samples and this weekend I thought.. time to try them!

I started with the Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask ( what a long name for such a cute little thing! My suggestion to Marketing Tri-O2 Instant Energizing Mask). You have to apply it with damp skin and massage slightly. A froth will start coming out and it is such an amazing feeling, like bubbles massaging the skin.. I definitely liked it!. I tingles (in a postivie way) and has a lovely orangy smell.

After you have enjoyed the oxygen-froth feeling, you must remove it and you can apply the other product from Bliss.. The Triple Oxygen + C Energizing Cream. It has a similar smell as the mask, just lighter and it is quickly absorbed. My skin after the entire week of make up and dryness was very grateful I guess, because now it feels very nice and smooth.

I still have another Bliss product to try.. The Fabulous Foaming Face Wash. I will keep you posted about how it goes with that one!

I hope you enjoyed the review. Please share your comments and dont forget to like and share in social media.. Sharing is caring!

WHAT I JUST LOVE.. A GOOD TIME WITH MY NEW SISTERS AT SISTERS.

Yesterday, it was fun.. We hold our first Meet up for the Dubai Fashion & Lifestyle Bloggers Community, a new Meet up Shaheen and me have been putting together for the last few weeks. Could you believe there was not such a community, association or group for bloggers with fashion or lifestyle as main topic in Dubai?..(Hellooo, I insist .. in Dubai!).

I guess Dubai itself it is a bit like that, so fast paced, everybody minding their own business. A bloggers set of mind requires some time and space to research, write, go to events, take pics, and work on the unique content we always want to offer,.. and it feels a bit lonely sometimes. When we met we both felt the gap right there and eventually she started the meet up and I volunteer to assist her.

The Meet up took place at the Sisters Beauty Lounge in The Village Mall (Jumeirah area). The saloon has a very nice atmosphere and has a separate area for nails (manis and pedis), another for hair treatments, another section for facials, waxing and massage and even a very cute Kerastase bar with a russian lady that knows a whole lot about all the Kerastase products and what goes well to what type of hair. I am going to follow her advise on a few tips. Since I arrived to Dubai my hair is in serious misshape and I tried so many things with not always the expected results, I am still looking for the right product, the right hairdresser, the right treatment..

All paying attention to the explanation of the hair expert @ Sisters saloon.

The branch manager of Sisters showed us their premises, provided all the attendees with drinks and small tapas and offered us a bag with goodies and samples to test and a free mani or pedi (gorgeous coral toes- Thanks Michelle!). It was 10 of us so we got them busy for a while. The bloggers sisterhood at the Sisters saloon.

I am so glad to be part of this Meet up. The attendees were all amazing and had lots of ideas to improve and make the group really thrive. Everything is about helping each other, learning, developing relationships with one another, with the press, with the brands, growing personally and “blogger-ssionally”. (if where you missing my leliquistani.. there you go!). ;). I loved the energy and the camaraderie between all of us.

Let me introduce you some of the blogs of my fellow DF&L Bloggers. If you have a minute check them out. We are all in a path to self improvement and we love to have your feedback, so please comment, engage, like, share..
