AWESOME UAE: SNOOPY ISLAND

What I Just Love in Snoopy Island

Hi dears,

UAE is the amazing little country that I call home now and I am enjoying to go to around and learn new places. Having lived in so many countries, this one has corners that have such an unique beauty that it feels like poetry… the desert, the mountains, the sea, the souks..

Just recently we went to Snoopy Island in Fujairah. There is a little independent hotel there called Sandy Beach Hotel & Resort. There are others close by in Aqah but we chose this one as it is right in front of the rocky island of Snoopy Island.

www.whatijustlove.com

Driving from Dubai to Aqah takes more or less 2 hours (around 180 Kms) and the drive is worth a few stops. The Hajar Mountains took my breath away. They are truly amazing, powerful, mysterious and with almost no vegetation.

www.whatijustlove.com

What is special in Snoopy Island is that there are around the island many fishes and sharks.. Yep! Sharks.. The island stops the currents and is shelter of many different species including sharks.

www.whatijustlove.com

The distance from the beach of the hotel to the island is almost nothing, so you can easily swim and at the hotel you can rent the goggles and the fins. I took my GoPro for a first dive. It was really cool! Dont miss the snorkeling or the diving while being here.

If you feel like touring around there is another stop close to the hotel that is worth the visit. It is the Al Bidiyah Mosque. The oldest mosque in the entire emirates ( 1446 AD). It was built with stone and mud almost in front of the sea. Beside it, on top of the hill, there are two watch towers. In the night the pictures are beautifully dramatic.

www.whatijustlove.com www.whatijustlove.com www.whatijustlove.com www.whatijustlove.com

As I am not Muslim I can not enter the little mosque but the roof and the shape of it it is really graceful. The four domes remind of the Ottoman empire and that is why it is also called Ottoman Mosque.

And if you keep on driving a bit more you end up in the capital of the emirate: Fujairah. It has a great park to walk right beside the sea and in front of the port. I have something with ports. I love the structures, the movement of all those cranes like in a ballet, their colours, the lego-containers all piled up.

I hope this post inspires you to visit this amazing place so close to Dubai!

OH! WHAT A BLISS!

Is it me or lately I feel like I am running from point A to B like crazy? At the office, there is quite a lot of work but I rather be busy than bored. I am the kind of person that needs to be motivated, always on the go, learning and doing new things.. Thank God my job gives all of that and also I have this little corner on the internet where I can release my mental wanderings for your entertainment and my astonishment.

This time I am going to share with you my experience with some Bliss products I got as samples to try at an event in Icons Coffee Couture. I love the cute little size of samples and this weekend I thought.. time to try them!

I started with the Triple Oxygen Instant Energizing Mask ( what a long name for such a cute little thing! My suggestion to Marketing Tri-O2 Instant Energizing Mask). You have to apply it with damp skin and massage slightly. A froth will start coming out and it is such an amazing feeling, like bubbles massaging the skin.. I definitely liked it!. I tingles (in a postivie way) and has a lovely orangy smell.

After you have enjoyed the oxygen-froth feeling, you must remove it and you can apply the other product from Bliss.. The Triple Oxygen + C Energizing Cream. It has a similar smell as the mask, just lighter and it is quickly absorbed. My skin after the entire week of make up and dryness was very grateful I guess, because now it feels very nice and smooth.

I still have another Bliss product to try.. The Fabulous Foaming Face Wash. I will keep you posted about how it goes with that one!

I hope you enjoyed the review. Please share your comments and dont forget to like and share in social media.. Sharing is caring!

THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX…MARKET OTB

Hi dears,

Dubai is a box full of surprises and these days, even more. I hope you had the chance to visit the new shopping spot. It is not a mall, no, not this time.

Located at the Burj Park and only during 10 days, we can enjoy the Market Outside The Box, but well, in a way it is a market in a box, in many boxes as a matter of fact. You know how I love all this portable, resilient and so adaptable containers. At the end of the day I have been doing procurement and logistics for a good part of my life and now I am working in some projects having containers as lego pieces… containers to be gas stations, to be schools, to be shops, to be businesses.. all for the off the grid areas, for cool-looking district areas, for temporary use like the Olympics ( or not so temporary, a container can last forever really). I have seen a project of luxury villas by the beach made totally out of containers and they look so amazingly chic and modern. Even the swimming pool was a container!!

Being Dubai, with Jebel Ali, the hub for so many shipping lines I just can not understand how this great idea was not implemented before. We could have -at the base of the Jebel Ali Palm for example- a fixed park with shops and cafeterias to enjoy the seaside and the views. Make it colorful, such as this one, make it hippie chic and people will go there to spend their mornings on lazy weekends. You can add cladding with branding and you will never know it is done with containers. Keep it as is, use used containers (reuse) and you will have the industrial look.

Create a chill-out music lounge and you can monetise it too during the nights serving mojitos and caipirinhas. These initiatives are aligned with the Sustainabilty that EXPO 2020 is aiming for and that, in my humble opinion, the city must work hard to achieve.

Well, enough for now.. Lol! and let me share for you the pics I took on that day.

This is the general view of the area. My lovely Burj Khalifa is on the side. One day, I will live there or have my own office there, or something there.. I just love this building so much. My friends try to find kinky reasons ( Freud will be proud of them), but it is just that I like this clean, neat, sharp, unique architecture. Khalas!

The shops were very nicely done, with space inside and outside. Some created this mingle area outside and were serving limeade and other drinks.

Shoppers were really cute at this market. Don’t you think? 😉

Jamjar had organised quite a lot of activities for all ages during these days. Children definitely always have a blast. Look at the little blond Van Gogh painting!

The shops inside are really cool and I fell in love with this one selling Maria Iqbal’s bags and turbans. It is called Be You and they have some T shirts with super positive messages from Lorna Jane. This is their facebook page.

Pink is back to my heart and when I found this bike, I couldnt help myself. I come from a family of cyclists. My daddy was even a professional back on the days- but he had a bad lesion and had to stop it. My brother is everything about soccer and bikes. I have never compete but just to be around, it kind of grows on you. Oh! All those memories of childhood holidays with the bikes on top of the car and once I got my driving license, my duty as Support car. Lol.. Time has passed but these memories will stay with me forever!

And this is the Market’s photocall. Ain’t it cool? By the way, Yallah is like “Lets go”, “Hurry up”,”Come on”, “Venga, vamos”, “Geh mal”, “Allez, depeche toi”.. in arabic is used all the time. Also means like “all right” depending on the context.

One of the shops is called Bullets and Butterflies. There I found this gorgeous wooden frames. I like them a lot, My only concern is if I could replace the glass with my prescription ones ( me cant seh, dah!). I have to go to the optician and find out! Check their website if you want to see their cool stuff.

We spent most of the afternoon there as you can see and when we were about to leave, something beautiful happened. This!

Honestly, it is the best place to enjoy the fountains and there is not too much people, so it is great for videos and camera addicts ( such as me..).

I hope you enjoyed me sharing my day with you. Please share the love and like and share on your page the facebook page and the blog’s dominion.

DUBAI STREET ART I

Hi dears!

This past Friday 24,starting at 18.30 more or less, something so-not-Dubai happened in Al Quoz. It was the first edition of Dubai Street Art. I enjoyed it so much, I hope there is more editions to come… and pronto!

I must say that lately Dubai ( or is it me), is craving for this kind of alternative events. Creation is part of being human and sooner or later we want to do, to imagine, to get our hands dirty.. There is plenty of malls and we know we can find absolutely anything here, but for sure you can not find in Dubai Mall one of my drawings or one of my pots. These are unique and very personal.. and also priceless.

They closed the area around Times Square and  allowed street artists to let their imagination fly. Let me share the pictures of the night!!

Hands on!

I have also another announcement, even though in Facebook has already been posted. The winner of the beautiful earrings of Glamorous Penguins that we have as blog’s giveaway is Maura Hales. Yeyy! Congratulations to the lucky one!

HOW DO I GET A JOB IN DUBAI?- SERIES. PART2.

www.whatijustlove.com

Hi dears!

Continuing with the series “How to get a job in Dubai?” and once you have a decent and well translated resume or CV, the next thing you need to do is to create a Linkedin Profile.

This is the link to join.

Linked in is a widely used social network for professionals.. Yep! Keep that.. Professionals. No Candy Crush here. In UAE is very used by recruiters and individuals with a whopping 1.3 million users- for such a small country is a lot. You have to register and built your profile. The data that you have in your resume will be posted as your experience, education etc..

You will need a professional picture too. Please don’t use pictures of parties or those ones taken 3 kilometres away. Your face is supposed to be seen. It is the reflection of ourselves.

I see a trend to have “passport” pictures as profile pictures. I like the white background but the poker face I don’t, unless you are applying as bodyguard or bouncer at a disco.

If you want to work in fashion, your profile needs to be even more attractive. Make sure you complete all the steps that Linkedin offers and all your skills and experience is reflected with dates and details.

Having your complete profile in Linkedin will help you not only to get a job in Dubai but I in any other corner of the world.

It might be your digital resume but it could be much more. How? I will explain it in the next post.

Lots of Luv,

Lil

WHAT I WORE SERIES- BLACK AND BLUE

Hi dears,

Dubai’s weather is amazing now.. with temperatures during the day of 25C and in the night of 20C. It is just paradise!

Still, we have some AC issues in the office and you will always see me with some jacket or scarf in work days and lately with a very stubborn flu. This is what I wore few days ago to go to work and I got quite a lot of compliments.

www.whatijustlove.com

I love the colour combination – black and petroleum blue. Normally, I love colours but I am pretty conservative when it comes to the business attire. The skirt is from Fabrika, the blouse is from New Look and the jacket from G2000. The pendant is from Tous and the chain bracelet and bag are from Aldo.

The earrings are part of my precious collection of earrings of the world. These ones are a beautiful present from Nacho and Elianne- Luv u guys!- when they went to Italy some months ago. They have a beautiful story behind as they are handmade by a very special artisan and are made of opaque glass.

I love earrings. Whenever I travel, I always buy at least a pair and I have a nice collection by now. I love the ethnicity, uniqueness and the recovered memories of that trip or of the people that bought them knowing of my weird addiction.

www.whatijustlove.com

Maybe I shouldnt say addiction, I dont like the connotations of that word. My husband loves this picture- for some reason I dont understand- I look like a shar-pei! Sorry..  Mmm.. looking for a better word for my ehem.. addiction.. the English Theasurus brings this up..

This pic is much better. For some reason my hubby always enjoys taking pictures of me when I am talking or eating or sleeping but when I pose, with a  beautiful landscape behind, all smiles and with my better angle, it doesnt interest him. Lol.

Lil

EL FINDE

Hi dears!

This weekend was very special, yep! It is National day today and we got yo enjoy an extra day off. Niiiiceeee!

What to do with one gorgeous long weekend like this? By the way, “finde” is the abbreviation of “fin de semana”, weekend in english. (Free lesson of spanish here, eh?).

We went to visit some very dear friends in Liwa desert area. Have you heard about this amazing place? Check the hotel Qsar al Sarab for absolute Wow-stays and some of my pics to get the idea.. Honestly, to me it is the prettiest desert in the world.. Khalas!

On the 1st of december my friend has birthday, so it was a perfect excuse to get together and celebrate her birthday and the 42th birthday of the UAE going to a very emirati venue. She booked us in a falcon show together with a saluki dog show in the middle of the desert. These dogs are super skinny, agile and fast. Falcons are just gorgeous and I was impressed to learn they can see perfectly from kilometers away (right, same as me hahaha).

FIESTA FOR A CAUSE.. FOR A VERY GOOD CAUSE

Hi my dears,

Yesterday it was one of the events that I mentioned in a previous post to assist and gather funds for the Yolanda Victims. Dubai is a generous city and that showed yesterday with people coming and going during the entire day.All the money and goods collected will be sent by LBT to the disaster area.

The food was awesome, the people amazing and the cause a really good one.

Let me show you some of it..

Amore Rosso, the restaurant of the venue, has an italian chef and a filipino chef -actually a wife and husband team!- when we arrived it was filipino food available as they were doing batches. I am not too familiar with it and the names are kind of difficult to remember but the chicken caldereta and the buko pandan (a green dessert that looks atomic and it is just delicious!) will stay with me forevaaaaa .;)

Nada and the Buffet

As it was a buffet, I picked up a bit of every dish and enjoyed all of them. The company was the best of the best, as I went with my friend and blogger Nada from Undefined Declarations and there I finally met Naomi from PinayFlyinghigh!! She was the brave organiser and soul of this project.

There we met other amazing people too as we were so lucky to share the table with other two bloggers friends of Naomi too. Sanne from Mitziemee and Pia from Expiatriatewife ( I love the name Pia!!). Please check their blogs as these ladies have a lot to say.

It is funny that we all come from such a different backgrounds, countries, culture, languages, professions,.. and still we all have such a strong bond through our blogs. Blogging is an amazing connection and I love it!

After the event and to make things even better we went to have a coffee to Reem Al Bawadi in Downtown Dubai. After getting lost for quite a while – who on Earth designed the roads on Dubai was planning to use helicopters and not cars!!- we reached. There we met Sarah and Yessenia. I loved the conversation and could have stayed there with them for a week chatting non stop!

www.whatijustlove.com

With the girls!!

The place was very nice although the service was not at all. Still we got to enjoy a beautiful view of my favourite building.. Burj Khalifa. I have some many pictures of my beloved BK in my phone that looks like I built it!!

Impressive eh?

What can I say, I love my life and I love Dubai. I am very thankful for all the amazing things that come my way and all the private “gurus” and “teachers” that I am encountering here.

Talking about which, remember to be part our new project : The Happy- list. All the explanation is in this Happy Post. You can access to the facebook event in this link and see all the beautiful thoughts shared so far. I love them and wanted to thank you all for the great response and I must confess that your comments are so amazing and moving that you are transporting me there.. with you.. Thanks, Gracias, Merci, Danke, Grazie Mille!! Dont hesitate to share the event with friends and family, specially if they are having a tough time. There is a lot of happy thoughts there.

I have also done some other changes on the facebook page. You will see some new icons on the header.. Like the Pinterest and the Instagram icons.. if you click in the “more” buttom the Twitter and Youtube accounts will open up too. If you have no Instagram or no Pinterest now you can follow the pins and pictures from the Facebook page directly.

In case you have direct access, these are the links, please like and share as it makes me so  happy to know you are there.

IT IS ALL ABOUT A SHELTER.

I hope you have been missing my posts lately, because I have been missing my blog baaadly!! These last weeks have been just so H E C T I C, but really, really! On the other side, I have great news!

Lets see, where can I start? Better by the beginning, right? Ok, well,.. tachan! we bought a house and you are all very invited to come and visit. My preciousness ( and the bank’s!) is in a green area, have a beautiful garden, a chimney and even a swimming pool. It is located in Madrid, more or less 20 kilometers from the center, but I have a train station very close so I can be in Sol in no time!.

In summer, while on holidays, we went ahead and started some visits to properties and what made this house the winner of my heart ( and my savings..) was a moment and a smell. Let me explain,.. during the visit, when I opened the balcony, it came a fabulous smell of pine trees. The house is surrounded by trees and pine trees. It brought me back childhood memories, amazing moments with family, with friends, up in the mountains, walking in the Pyrenees, riding bicycles and horseback riding .. That was it!.. There goes my heart!..The winner is…

la foto (2)

This preciousness is one of the reasons why I have been so busy and nervous. It is my first mortgage and I couldn’t imagine all the paperwork and care you have to put into it. I am also very particular and I need to read and understand everything, so maybe it is me, hehehe! Banks now are tough to deal with, specially in my beloved Spain. Crisis is still very present and well now, no need to say I am very happy and I can not wait to start decorating!!.

I believe in signs. There are signs everywhere, but normally we decide to ignore them, we are too busy to see them or we prefer to deny the messages. Signs can be good or bad. The day before the signature, I fell asleep and I slept -honestly- like a baby. I haven’t slept this deep and peaceful in years,.. so many years, I couldn’t even remember!.. I woke up late, I didn’t hear any of the alarms and I felt just so great, it was weird. I reached the office and started my work, I felt very energized, so I was totally aligned and things were going well.

During the morning, just before the signature, I received an email from Tala Farah from the blog My small obsessions..oh my! I won a perfume! and guess what.. it is SI of Armani. A new perfume I liked already since an event in Mall of The Emirates recently and that was in my “next-to” list. Khalas! Now I have my own SI.. Si means yes in Spanish. It is a clear confirmation that Yes!You can go ahead. You have the blessings of the Universe. Yes, everything is going to go well and Yes! you will smell beautiful too!

And well, everything went well ( Siiii!!!). Now it seems long passed all the come and go of emails and calls and stress with banks, sellers, realtors and lawyers of these last months.

😉

Now , lets get serious.. I am very lucky- we all are- and we have some place we call home.., but there are people that have lost everything or almost. Yes, Si, Oui.. I am talking of the Philippines and the devastation that has been left behind Yolanda and the recent earthquake.

There are many ways to assist. I always use the Red Cross or Red Crescent. This is the link if you want to donate through the International Federation of  Red Cross and Red Crescents Societies. Choose your country, your region here and help if you can. I know my jamaican and spanish friends are very generous.

If you are in Dubai and want to help physically, the UAE Red Crescent is organizing an event on the 15th November between 8.00 and 17.00 in Zabeel Park (Amphitheater and MegaBowl area). Here you can participate by bringing food (please non perishables and non need to cook foods are better) shelters or medicines. There is no need for clothing as yet. Also there will be opportunity to donate in cash.

Also another friend blogger from the Philippines  is organizing her own event to assist. I will be there, supporting her and all the filipinos. Here you have all the info of the event and hopefully we get to see each other for such a good cause.

Lets help them… Now…It is our turn.

Lots of Luv and Good energy,

Lil
