HAPPY BIRTHDAY SHOEMART!

Hi dears,

Dubai is so full of events, some times it is hard to keep up with all that happens here. For example, Shoemart celebrated just recently its 25 years. This shoe company has been already quite a while in Dubai, right? They have shops in most of the malls I like. For this anniversary, they organised an event to show their new collection for Spring / Summer 2015 with their new face, Maya Diab. She is a Lebanese actress, singer and fashion icon.

The event had two violinists playing amazingly and the music of the Dj’s after it was not bad at all. The collection was very fresh, with very bright colors and some of the very chunky soles in white plastic that are so in vogue. They also showed ballerinas and sport shoes in futuristic silver and golden shades.

There were shoes shown for every occasion… for the office, for dinner out with your better half, to go to the beach with your gang, for your day off lazing around doing nothing.. What I like most about Shoemart is that their shoes are very affordable, so you always end up buying an extra pair even if it was not on your initial list. And even if they are cheap, they don’t look cheap, which is I think the secret to their success in sales.

Well dears, I have put together some of the best pics in the collage above to be able to show you a bit of what the night held.  I fell in love with the metallic with diamond appliques shoes of the presenter -also from Shoemart- and the black transparent sandals from Maya Diab…I would say they are part of the Fantasy collection if I would be asked. They are both gorgeous don’t you think?

At the Grazia Fest

Darina calls me – Hey! What are you doing later on?

Me- mmm. Not much.. (on weekends, I can not really think fast for some reason..)

Darina- Well, then I pick you up and we go to Grazia Fest.

Me- mmm.. Ok!

So there we went! At around 17.00, even though the event was starting from 12.00 and the day before was on already.

Grazia was organising a festival type of event, the idea being a Coachella of sorts.. well, we are in Dubai, I guess we can not help it,.. so just when we were going in, some amazing ladies where coming out with stiletos and totally glamorous dresses.. Ok, maybe we should have checked the dress code.. what the lol!

Still, after our first impression, being beside the Barasti beach it was more relaxed than most of the events in Dubai and we enjoyed the time at the booths and with the familiar faces we were finding around.

There was an stage where some fashion brands where showing their pieces every now and then and DJ music, you could have a henna tattoo and get your make up or your nails done at Sephora booth or at Shiseido. The popo up shops were really cute and I saw some of my favourites ( Michele Belau, Vitrine designs, Charlotte Hudders, O’de Rose etc).

My lovely friend Viola was there too witha little booth. From her trip to Japan she brought really cool stuff. It is called Floats and they are toe rings, but like really pretty and rich. I bought one! I will show you in another post because I love it too much!.

Another stand that was a bit different was Cryo. They offer cryogenic treatment to lose weight and to smooth lines in the face. You could see how it works and well, it is cooooooold. Definitely the body treatment it is not for me (so prone to flus and cold feet and hands), but the face one, could be interesting to try.

One of the stands at the entrance ( Neutrogena if my memory doesnt fail) had the great idea of relieving stress the greek way.. by breaking plates with the sources of stress written by you.. Boy! not sure the science behind, but it works!

We enjoyed also some fire works and there was some concerts later on.. Our day it was Eliza’s Doolittle.. sadly I couldnt stay for that long. Friends that stayed said that she was good but maybe her performance was too short.

My thoughts on the Grazia Fest,.. It is really nice to have an alternative beachy- festival type of event- now that the weather is better-, the price thought was too high (150 Dhs), the food and drinks stalls were not too well organised like if you wanted coke it was a different queue than water ( somebody explain please!). Some booths were giving great goodies ( Iconic was really cool!) but still it feels like a pilgrimage of giving personal data and emails at every single booth. Still, I enjoyed it, but I enjoy whenever I am with my friends. By the way, do you know my lovely Darina has been nominated as Young Communicator of the year!! Yallah! I am so proud!!

Ok, enough for now.. Now let me show you some pics!

Luv,

Leli

MY TAKE ON LANVIN

Hi dears!

Recently I wrote about some gorgeous Lanvin necklaces (to review blog post click here) and this is my take.

Whatijustlove.comLooks cool eh!.. I got it done at The Wired Up shop in Dubai Mall. A little shop on the way to the dancing fountains in Dubai Mall. They have them in Silver and Golden wire and can add different stones or shapes to it. I loved this turquoise shiney stone and we mixed it with the white for extra cuteness.

Lil

WHAT I JUST LOVE.. KANGAS

Hi People!

Not many of you might know what a Kanga is. I recently traveled to Kenya and Tanzania and the Kanga happens to be the national dress. People use it on their everyday and also in special occasions.

For sure you have seen before this very african look. Kanga is just a rectangle of pure cotton. It normally has some sort of pattern, very bright colours and some message in swahili. The message is actually very important. Conveys blessings, old sayings or warnings. Some even have political messages. yep! Propaganda is really creative!

You can buy it everywhere, either the cloth itself – to wrap around-, either an already made dress, skirt or top.

The cloth itself is called Kitenge. It is pure cotton and it is a bit rigid because they use batik to dye it (manual wax-resist dyeing technique). Maybe on another post I will show how Batik is done.

Funny enough, when I came back to Dubai from my trip, I went shopping and guess what,.. there were kanga designs on the windows of so many shops.. so, if it is not trendy is what!

Well, here you have some pics of my African look. Me, myself and I with my brand new kanga that it is skirt and dress all in one.

Luv,

Lil

WHAT I JUST LOVE..MY WEEKEND IN KENYA!

My good friend Nada from Undefined Declarations has sent me an email about a Blog Carnival. I didn’t know what was that, but basically, different bloggers write about a topic ( in this case..what did you do this weekend) and send their posts to the Carnival Host. This will help your blog to be seen (and maybe followed) and also help bloggers get to know each other.

I wanted to participate as I am very open to pretty much everything in this digital world, but my weekend has been kind of special as I was in Kenya for work reasons. That serves to  explain too my almost online silence during this week  (thanks Instagram!). I was part of a Trade Mission organised by the UAE Ministry of Economy. Well, for those who don’t know yet, I am Project Manager during the day and Fashion/Lifestyle blogger during the night (as weird as it might sound!).

The Trade Mission took us to Tanzania and Kenya. It was pretty hectic with lots of meetings and events but an absolute worthy experience. Coming back to the weekend topic, we took one day off – out of exhaustion- and book a 3 in 1 tour in Nairobi to unwind and see a bit the outside world as we spent most of our time inside the hotel.

We departed early in the morning and came back more or less at 15h. Nairobi traffic is dreadful so part of that time was spent on the road. Me and other 10 delegates went to the Nairobi National Park, the Elephant Orphanage and the Giraffe Center.

Believe it or not the National Park is right in Nairobi – even from the airport we spotted some giraffes on our way in!-. It is pretty extensive and we saw zebras, buffaloes, giraffes, hippos, impalas, hartebeests.. Yep! No lions or rhinos.. Bad luck!

The next stop was the Elephant orphanage. This place takes care of baby elephants whose mothers have been killed for their tusks- (Terrible, horrible crime). Looks like the elephants have only milk for one baby at a time, so when the mother dies, the baby elephant can not be taken care of by any other elephant, and also they are very sensitive, so they miss their moms and get depressed and stop eating even when they could. They need a lot of care, affection and special baby milk formula. They are really playful and clumsy and as big as they are, they are real cute babies. The orphanage is operated by donations and you can adopt an elephant. Yes! True! Check it out here. I think it is a real good gift for Ramadan!

The last stop was also amazing… the Giraffe Center. Here you can have a once in a life time experience.. you can feed a giraffe looking them right in the eye!.. Beside the fact that you can see our little human dimension beside them- and boy! they are big!,- their tongue is purple and they are really friendly.

The giraffe I fed was a male (Ibrahim- lovely name ain’t it?). See the pics here and if you want to be posted about fashion and lifestyle (including, as you can see, travelling) follow my blog www.whatijustlove.com and the instagram account (@gallegoara).

Happy weekend!

Luv,

Lil

WHAT I JUST LOVE.. JEAN LOUIS SCHERRER

In Spanish news normally they only speak about the crisis, corruption, Europe and Greece .. well, yeah! and about football (our joy is our national team! 🙂 ) and there, in the middle of the news I heard that Jean Louis Scherrer, a french fashion designer has died.

I honestly didn’t know him, but the short footage that they showed about his work ( and him! he was pretty cute!) caught my attention and I started to investigate.

Wow! Scherrer was amazing… Classic style, super elegant and at the same time absolutely glamorous. It is no wonder he dressed Sophia Loren, Jackie Kennedy, Raquel Welch or Claudia Cardinale!!

He started working with Dior (what a first job, eh!) together with Yves Saint Laurent. When Dior died and Saint Laurent took over as Creative Director, he decided to leave and create his own brand. Scherrer was pretty successful initially but some bad moves on the business side made him lose influence within his own brand and eventually led to even being kicked out ( Steve Jobs style!).

It leaves room to reflect… Fashion is a business at the end of the day, even if you have all the creativity and style in the world.

May his soul rest in peace and may all of you enjoy a video I found about Scherrer’s work.Sorry it is in French, but there was not Youtube in the 80’s!!

#WHAT I JUST LOVE.. LOUBOUTIN CREATIONS

christianlouboutin-crossronda-1130673_3214_2_1200x1200

Christian LouboutinThe beginnings.. Louboutin

I came across this video (in the link above) with the origins of Christian Louboutin. I just loved it and have to share it !

I personally don’t own (as yet) any of his shoes, they are part of my wish list though!

Kudos for him, for his passion and for the beautiful results of his creativity!

If you have the chance, check his online shop and his Loubi World Madness. It is so original to see the designer with this hindu- hypnotique look. He might need to breath though as he appears with a blue face (Ganesh reminiscence but with no trunk).

Here you have the links. Be patient, it takes a bit of time to load, but it is worthy. I guess all the moving objects and images make it heavy.

Which one  is your favorite shoe of the collection?

Kudos for you too if you manage to choose only one!
